Jack Daniel's Twice Barreled American Single Malt (2022 Release)
American Single Malt — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed December 18, 2022 (edited December 24, 2022)Nose: funky in the best way. Molasses, berries, dried red fruit. Palate: totally different from nose. Oily wonderful mouthfeel. Caramel, cinnamon vanilla, and cereal. Drinks well below the 106 proof. Added a drop of water and the berries from the nose reappeared. Finish: slightly short but very well balanced. So different from the classic JD profile, and I think this is a great limited edition. Well executed and thought provoking. I foresee this making its way with me on camping trips, perfect for contemplating under the stars. -
High West A Midwinter Night's Dram The Encore
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed December 18, 2022Nose: above average, starts with traditional rye spices. With swirl it moves towards plum and aged leather. Slightly astringent Palate: wow! The rye notes shine much brighter in this edition when compared to the MWND ruby port finish. Baker bread and earthy tones on the back half with a sweeter carry that I assume is the white port. Finish: Medium finish, smooth and lingering. All in all this is a great rye. The white port finishing is subtle and not in your face like the traditional MWND. I foresee a lot of cold nights starting with encore and ending with MWND (I get the irony)150.0 USD per Bottle -
Nose: maple, chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla. Doesn’t have as much oak as I was expecting. Palate: vanilla with cherries and slight lemon. Mid palate is so balanced and prolonged with leather oak possibly nutmeg. Finish: perfect. Medium long not astringent and somehow somewhat refreshing. Wish the proof was slightly higher
