TINCUP American Whiskey
Other Whiskey — Indiana (bottled in Colorado), USA
Reviewed June 14, 2019 (edited December 15, 2019)I don’t understand the tasting description of this whiskey on this app or why the score is relatively amateur. I am amazed by this whiskey’s scotch-like depth and bourbon-like comfort (not to mention the fact that it’s under $30). The initial, mild peaty tones are reminiscent of a Highland scotch, followed by a distant sweetness that reminds me of a Tennessee whiskey. If you’re looking for a whiskey that can reconcile these two regions while still maintaining an element of indiscriminant drinkability, buy it. Take it camping in a flask or drink it in a Glencairn glass while sitting in your easy-chair. Just drink it straight and rest easy because you only paid $28 for it. -
Dalwhinnie 15 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 10, 2019 (edited November 17, 2019)This highland region Scotch reflects the honey flavor of the region most predominantly. It is smoother than some highland scotches due to its sweetness, but it is still very potent. It does not have a higher score because it’s other notes are more difficult to identify as it is not as adequately balanced. It puts nicely with a fatty fish or chicken. -
For some, the peatiness is overpowering. But for the Isla taste that Lagavulin attempts to embody, it is in the top tier. The smoky tastes are not so overpowering that they shine out the peppery and woodsy flavors, but they still pack a punch. Would pair nicely in a cocktail with Mezcal and orange. Pairs most smoothly with a red meat that is not over seasoned and a starch heavy side dish.
