Tastes

I initially trashed this whisky on an earlier review but after several subsequent tastings, I must admit that Laphroaig 10 has grown on me. In fact, I'm well into my second bottle and quite enjoy the stuff.

The Cadillac of the Johnnie Walker line lives up to it's reputation in every way. This is a Scotch designed to appeal to the masses and it does so beautifully. Scotch connoisseurs who prefer their whisky to be well defined (ie: peaty, smoky, fruity etc), and who typically don't like a Scotch that tries to be everything to everyone, probably won't care for this. Those who just like good Scotch will love it. Anyway, an extremely smooth and well balanced blend with a touch of smoke and a hint of sweetness that lingers on the pallet beautifully. Definitely something every Scotch lover should try at least once in their lifetime.

Johnnie Walker Red is to Scotch what a Big Mac is to prime rib. Passable if nothing else is available but just barely. Harsh, medicinal, and best with a lot of ice.

A very good Scotch but a bit sweet for me. I would have preferred a bit more peat and smoke.

Good price but for the same money I'd prefer the slightly better Johnny Walker Black.

Smooth and peaty with notes of green banana and oak. The smoke is there but not overpowering. A well balanced Scotch that reminds me of a slightly tangier Highland Park 12. Definitely one of my favs.

Quite a bit going on here. Complex flavors blend beautifully and this is a damn fine Scotch! Yes, it is a bit pricey but we're rating whisky based on taste, not cost per dram and that being the case I repeat, this is a damp fine Scotch!

THE Speyside whisky that all others are measured by. A great dram at a surprisingly low price.

A good every day scotch especially when one considers the price (under $30). For some reason, water completely destroys this blend so I would advise a dram without ice or H20.

Peaty, smokey, extremely well balanced! Simply the best whisky I've ever had!!!
