Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye (Fall 2019)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 14, 2020 (edited September 2, 2020)A double from the White House in Aspen Very sweet on the nose (in a pleasant way). Totally unique. My first impression is a dryness on the lips. Long pleasant burn after finish, retaining a dry filmy feeling on the roof of my mouth. It’s flat across the pallet, with the primary flavor being white grapes on the back of the pallet. There are hints of woody, spicy, rye flavor too. If I chew it I get the Carmel flavor I like from higher proof bourbons, but it’s accompanied by some bitterness. Overall, I’m glad I tried it, but won’t do it again. -
Eagle Rare 17 Year Bourbon (Fall 2019)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 12, 2020 (edited July 13, 2020)Carmel on the nose, but light. More of a butterscotch aroma. First sip: flavorless across the pallet. Very warm finish, nice and long. Might need some ice to bring out the flavor. Second sip: butterscotch, albeit extremely light on the tip of the tongue, then again on the sides of the tongue, between the mid and back pallet. The aftertaste is very dry. After a few more sips I am convinced that I don’t really care for this one. I’m bummed because I wanted to love it so I could search for a bottle. PS, there’s a little apricot in there. **Edit** Turns out I had a cold when I tired this and literally couldn’t taste anything I ate for the next few few days. I’ll have to try this again in the furture. -
High West A Midwinter Night's Dram
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed March 12, 2020 (edited August 2, 2020)Amazing on the nose. Hints if cinnamon an raisins, plum, and sugar. Reminds me of a less carmely Buffalo Trace. Spicier on the entry than I expected. Not in a warm way, in a peppery way. A tiny bit flatter in the middle, but not in a bad way. Spicy, spicy finish too. Kind of dry on the finish too. Very unique!! -
Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey (Discontinued)
American Single Malt — Colorado, USA
Reviewed March 12, 2020I don’t like the smell. Buttery and sweet, but in kind of an artificial way. It’s weird. I don’t love it. Very unique. Won’t seek it out again. 2 of 5 stars. -
