Single Malt — Highlands, ScotlandTasted November 11, 2021Tons of sherry and the slightest smoke. It’s delicious. Damn near tastes like an Irish with how fruity it is.
Jefferson's Rye Cognac Cask Finish
Rye — USATasted November 8, 2021This is very complex. It comes on a bit like sherried scotch, but then that quickly dissipates to a sweetness that’s nearly characteristic of rum. Granted, I’m not very familiar with cognac. It’s interesting, but not one I’d have very often.
Blue Run Kentucky Straight Golden Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USATasted November 7, 2021Succulent. I’m getting pie crust, graham cracker, slight spice. It’s great, especially if you’re not a big rye drinker. Great conversation whiskey.
Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATasted November 5, 2021A sentimental one for me, but in all honesty, it’s awesome. Tastes like EH Taylor Small Batch or Eagle Rare. For its msrp, it would be hard to beat.
Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch B521
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATasted November 4, 2021Indulgent and hearty. It’s a great supper to really relish.
Michter's US*1 Barrel Strength Rye
Rye — USATasted November 3, 2021Extremely rich, like candy that somehow turns to cream of corn. It’s think and interesting.
Lagavulin Offerman Edition 11 Year
Peated Single Malt — Islay, ScotlandTasted November 2, 2021This is one you have to leave on your tongue a bit, but if you do, you do get some of that chocolate and Guinness influence. I’m not sure a pleated scotch would have been my choice for this, because you have to really look through its assault to get those notes. With that being said, it does mellow quickly, and is a good pour overall.
Calumet Farm 15 Year Single Rack Black Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATasted October 24, 2021Fruity and rich with tannic richness. Just an all around great bourbon. Get at Costco if you can, but I don’t think you’d be upset getting at $125. It’s good and it’s well-rounded.
New Riff Malted Rye Bottled in Bond
Rye — Kentucky, USATasted October 22, 2021A robust flavor. You can taste the malt (obviously), but the rye doesn’t get lost either. This is one that will add a pleasant variety to a collection of ryes, with its apple sweetness mixing with the rye earthy tones.
New Riff Balboa Rye
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATasted October 22, 2021Light and sweet, like eating a strawberry or an apple. Great citrus and mouthfeel. Very nice for a rye.
