Stagg Jr. Batch 16 (Summer 2021)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATasted November 24, 2021It’s good, but I don’t know if it’s my favorite. I don’t get a lot of sweet notes, but deeper ones. Like dark chocolate, maybe a bit of nut - I’m thinking an almond covered in cacao. I actually ate one and it complemented this well. It’s a good one, just maybe a bit underwhelming for the name.
W.B. Saffell Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATasted November 20, 2021Pleasant flavor, but mild. Tastes like a wild Turkey product, or maybe a watered down Bookers. Peanut butter is a note I definitely pick up.
Nashville Barrel Straight Bourbon Single Barrel
Bourbon — Nashville, USATasted November 17, 2021Private Barrel Select - TPIR. Really weird tasting note, but it gives me fun dip. A vitaminy, artificial fruit flavor.
Wild Turkey Forgiven
Blended American Whiskey — Kentucky, USATasted November 17, 2021Batch 303. Almost like a vitamin, but light and sweet. Berries and cream. One to hold onto.
Rossville Union Barrel Proof Straight Rye
Rye — Indiana , USATasted November 17, 2021Private Group Pick. Great, robust flavor. Like an almond joy or Mounds. Some chocolate and coconut.
Jameson Bow Street 18 Year Cask Strength (Batch Two)
Blended — IrelandTasted November 15, 2021It’s good, but it has a bit of alcohol astringency that sticks out like vodka to me. There is some Sherry fruitiness - it’s dry and pervasive. The longer you let it sit in your mouth, the better it is.
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATasted November 11, 2021Honestly, pretty mild. It has the sweet wheat flavor, but nothing super loud or complex. But, it is also 90 proof.
Single Malt — Highlands, ScotlandTasted November 11, 2021Tons of sherry and the slightest smoke. It’s delicious. Damn near tastes like an Irish with how fruity it is.
Jefferson's Rye Cognac Cask Finish
Rye — USATasted November 8, 2021This is very complex. It comes on a bit like sherried scotch, but then that quickly dissipates to a sweetness that’s nearly characteristic of rum. Granted, I’m not very familiar with cognac. It’s interesting, but not one I’d have very often.
Blue Run Kentucky Straight Golden Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USATasted November 7, 2021Succulent. I’m getting pie crust, graham cracker, slight spice. It’s great, especially if you’re not a big rye drinker. Great conversation whiskey.
