“Proof in the Pudding” pick. Great nose - little butterscotch with some earthy, hay notes. The palate is slightly thin - as others have said - but the flavor is unique and very enticing. I get a bit of that characteristic MGP rye with some cigar-esque qualities. Super lush, earthy tones. I want to say dirt even, but not in a bad way. I said unique already but that encapsulates this.

Local 95/5 rye out of Cody, WY. Has the traditional 95/5 nose and palate. Lots of dill, crisp green apple, buttery toffee? Very good stuff out of a small, local distillery. Edit: After looking at the label again, pretty sure this is MGP. Same rye mashbill, says it’s aged and blended in Cody but not distilled, etc. Not a big deal; I’m a big fan of MGP, especially at this pricepoint. However, I do like when brands are a bit more forthcoming about its distillate.

I’m slowly getting into rum. I’m a whiskey drinker, as I’d imagine most people on this app are. I was told that foursquare is a good entry into the rum genre. I agree; four square is fantastic. But then, I found a store pick of this for $30, remembered someone saying once that it was good, and picked it up. It wasn’t until after I first tried this that I saw that it also comes from the Foursquare distillery. Tasting this - I can totally see that. This rum is super well-balanced. Right amount of sweet, tropical notes mixed with those deep caramels and tobaccos you find in whiskey. Neither one is over-powering, but rather complementing. Great slightly-oily mouthfeel. For $30, the Real McCoy 5 makes its >$70 big brother not look so impressive. Definitely worth a pickup if you are looking to enter the rum genre.
