BenRiach Sherry Matured 12 Year (Discontinued)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed October 27, 2016 (edited April 18, 2017)I typically don't like Sherry whiskies that much because they go overboard with the sherry influence. But this one is special! This has enough Oak influence to get me onboard and less sherry influence on my palate to keep me interested. The finish is short and peppery but the sherry not overburdening my palate is a welcome respite. I have other Benriach whiskies in my collection and I appreciate the subtlety exhibited by the master distiller in designing this one. -
A very balanced and flavorful dram! The nose is very non-descript, but on the palate it is extremely smooth and silky. I get tropical fruits, honey. Quite reminiscent of graham crackers melting in your mouth. The silkyness prompted me to experiment chilling the 2nd dram a little. The result: liquid nectar!

Navazos-Palazzi Palo Cortado Cask Malt Whisky (July 2014)
Single Malt — Spain
Reviewed June 5, 2016 (edited February 18, 2019)Finally a whisky for Tequila lovers! If you have ever had any good Anejo tequila, you will feel right at home. And at cask strength this might be an overall better bargain ;-). One dram down and I didn't even realise it. If there is a category for smooth summer whiskies, this will win that bout for sure. Very thin mouthfeel, doesn't overwhelm the palate. The only negative is the finish which is pretty short and that comes along with some bitterness. With a tsp of water you get some floral notes, doesn't do much to the finish (very short again) or the bitterness..Overall a very enjoyable dram.. -
Glenfiddich 14 Year Rich Oak
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed May 24, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Has all the character of a Glenfiddich but with more citrus flavors. Some bitterness in the short finish. Overall a pleasant and light whisky but not worth the money. I would choose the 12 year old over this any day for that one has more depth and a longer finish. -
Kavalan Solist Ex-Bourbon Single Cask Strength
Single Malt — Taiwan
Reviewed April 9, 2016 (edited April 10, 2016)Take a bow Kavalan! Just wonderful! This hits you like a train but once you tame it there is an explosion of varied spices and fruits. Very smooth, literally melts in your mouth. After having this I believe only Kavalan can give Yamazaki a run for the money. Trust me, you need to experience this! Tip: Diluting this with even a drop of water puts a damper on the experience. So give it some time and have it neat.
