Nose- Heavy oak, sawdust, black licorice, black pepper, caramel Taste- Toasted oak, black licorice, creme brulee, burnt orange Finish- long spicy finish with deep oak undertones This is fantastic. Big, bold and in your face. The oak is tasty and perfectly balanced with the other smells and flavors. Tastes like a highly aged bourbon. I also get some unique flavors from this one that’s hard to find in other drams.

Nose- candied ginger, caramel, lemons, cedar wood, cinnamon Palate- Bursting flavors of lemon initially, ginger, wood spice, figs Finish- long, tasty finish with bright citrus and a creamy mouthfeel Really, really nice. Quite complex on the nose and palate. This whisky evolves as you drink it, a quality that I enjoy. I love the ginger notes that i’m used to with macallan, but the estate addition really focused on them. The wood spice dominates a bit at points, but it’s mingled in well with bright citrus and caramel.

Nose-dark fruits, cloves, toffee, pear syrup, caramelized pecans, sea salt, creamy vanilla, hint of smoke Palate- dark juicy cherries, wood spice, puffs of smoke, plums, cinnamon apples, caramel with sea salt, french vanilla Finish- oily, long finish with wood spices, honey and a bit of smoke That is one of the single greatest noses i’ve ever experienced with a whisky. So complex and inviting. The palate is nothing short of amazing as well. Perfect amount of smoke. Complex, with beautiful notes of spice and delicate fruits. Finishes with a long finish and an oily mouthfeel. The hype around this is REAL. Not $700 real, but no whisky is in my opinion, but this is the best whisky i’ve tried to date.

Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 23, 2020 (edited March 24, 2023)Nose- freshly peeled green grapes, honeycomb, ginger, milk chocolate, applesauce Palate- juicy pear, light peat, dates, honey, dried fruits, beeswax Finish- medium finish with honey, sweef apples and spices Delicious. Incredibly balanced. Complex nose and palate with a perfect amount of peat and dark fruits. Love the honey from start to finish. Finish could be a bit longer, but with a nose and palate as beautiful as this, it’s hard to complain. -
Glenmorangie Signet
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 23, 2020 (edited March 6, 2020)Nose- dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, cinnamon, spiced peaches, ginger, candied orange, toasted oak Palate- milk chocolate and almonds initially, espresso, ginger, chocolate covered oranges, creamy vanilla, bitter oak, cinnamon Finish- creamy mouthfeel with a long long long finish of baking spices and espresso, with chocolate from start to finish Unlike anything ive had. Nose is beautiful, palate is beautiful, finish is creamy and long with bright notes. The definition of a complex and unique whisky. Everything you could ask for from a whisky and more. Love love love it. Will be buying a bottle and keeping it stocked -
Nose- canned peaches, light floral, honey, orange zest, funky rum, candied ginger Palate- wood spice, vanilla caramel candies, dried fruits, raisins, floral Finish- medium, chewy finish with floral and wood spice notes Not a huge fan of this one. The nose is absolutely beautiful, with interesting funky notes and candied ginger. The palate is where it falls short though. The palate is basic, with not much highlights and in my opinion is very average. Solid finish of traditional sherry notes and wood spice, though.

Nose- lemon, caramel, butterscotch, raisins, wood spice Palate- heavy sherry, raisins, dried fruits, cinnamon spice Finish- long finish with notes of sherry and spice Would love to find a first fill cask with a better color to do a true review, but this is the one that I had in front of me. Pretty basic sherried whisky. Nothing really stands out. Nose is good, but has more heat than I like in 46% whisky. Palate is pretty one dimensional with sherry flavors and spice. Just ok.

Macallan Rare Cask
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 23, 2020 (edited June 14, 2020)Nose- chocolate covered raisins, vanilla, gingerbread, plums, spiced oak Palate- ginger, apricot, dried fruits, milk chocolate, orange peel Finish- medium, oily finish with bright citrus and baking spices Solid whisky. Nothing too crazy, and certainly not worth $300. Great sherry notes with the usual macallan ginger notes on the nose and palate. Hard to not be disappointed though due to the price point. -
Ardbeg Corryvreckan
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed January 23, 2020 (edited February 5, 2020)Nose- Heavy peat, sea salt, bacon with brown sugar, honey Palate- cigar ash, peat smoke, bacon, sea salt, citrus, brown sugar, honey Finish- long, creamy finish of peat smoke, cigar ash and spice Too much cigar ash for me. I’m all for peat, but this one isn’t doing it for me. Pretty simple nose. Cigar ash is dominating the palate for me. The finish is the saving grace, with that ash developing into a creamy mouthfeel of peat and spice -
Glenfiddich 21 Year Reserva Rum Cask Finish
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed January 23, 2020Nose- banana, brown sugar, lemon, orange peels, honey, milk chocolate Palate- dark fruits, burnt sugar, caramel, banana foam, buttered vanilla Finish- short finish of dark brown sugar and vanilla Solid all around. Sort of disappointing due to price and age. Not much oak at all. Very hard not to compare it to them much cheaper and accessible Balvenie 14 year Caribbean Cask. The Balvenie beats it out easily unfortunately. If this was somewhere from 43-50% ABV, it would do ver nicely, but the 40% just doesn’t have enough for me. Nice banana and dark sugar notes though, enjoyable sipper... just not for the money.
