Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye (Fall 2017)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 23, 2020 (edited July 11, 2020)Nose- Gingerbread, baking spices, orange zest, caramel, molasses, dill, cinnamon, and a bit of lemon Palate- Spices (black pepper, cardamom, clove and cinnamon), peach, cherry, rosemary, caramel Finish- Incredibly long, drying finish with herbal rosemary notes accompanied by ginger and bright citrus At first sip this slaps you across the face. Powerful and dry. Has a long, dry finish that you can feel from the throat down to the stomach. Nose is not too hot, with a surprisingly fruity profile, along with normal rye spices with an interesting lemon note. Palate is complex and tasty. Oak is present throughout, along with all the rye and baking spices you could ask for. Some notes of peach and cherry are present as well. This is a fantastic rye. -
Parker's Heritage Barrel Finished in Orange Curaçao Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 23, 2020Nose- orange zest, ethanol, caramel, oak Palate- candied orange, oak, sweet caramel, honey, long bitter note. Wave of raisins washes over the bitterness. Finish- medium, odd finish of artificial orange juice and spice A swing and a miss from Parker’s heritage. I tried this out of curiosity. It was very unique- and has flashes of great flavors on the palate, but the nose is weak, and the palate has this bitter taste that seems to overpower the rest of the notes. -
Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon (2018 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 23, 2020 (edited September 23, 2020)Nose- roasted marshmallow, white cake, vanilla frosting, coconut, oak, nutmeg, baking spices Palate- Wood, roasted marshmallow, mint, caramel, cinnamon, vanilla Finish- medium, soft finish with notes of herbal mint and sweet marshmallows Very unique, one of my favorite noses on a bourbon. Love the cake and marshmallow notes I get. Palate is not as impressive as the nose, but still good. The palate starts off with the traditional trifecta (vanilla, oak, caramel) and then branches off into some sweet notes and finishes with herbal. Some love it, some hate it. I love it -
Nose- Honey, Caramel, cinnamon sugar, rye spices, citrus, and a unique baked bread smell. With water added a biscuity note starts to come out. Palate- Spice coats the mouth, followed by a wave of caramel and bright citrus. Adding water doesn’t change the palate much- but does take away some spice and replace it with creamy vanilla notes. Finish- Long, drying finish with notes of toasted oak and honey Fantastic nose for such a high proof bourbon. The palate is good- but didn’t amaze me and is very hot. Not as impressed with this one as I thought I would be. A bit one dimensional, albeit enjoyable.

Nose- peanut butter, vanilla, brown sugar, hazelnut, caramel, toasted oak Palate-Toasted oak, peanut oil, vanilla, brown sugar, cinnamon Finish- Medium, chewy finish with notes of cinnamon spice and caramel Great bourbon. Very good nose and the palate is nice and balanced, a palate that developed and changed as I drank it. I love the peanut notes I get on the nose and palate. Extremely balanced for 128 proof and drinks much lower than the proof.

Booker's Bourbon Batch 2015-01 "Big Man, Small Batch"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 23, 2020 (edited November 1, 2020)Nose- honey roasted peanuts, vanilla, caramel candies, dark fruits, Palate- salted peanuts, red (spanish) peanuts, vanilla bean, toasted oak, dark fruits, cherry, caramel Finish- Long, full bodied finish of oak and red spanish peanuts Wow. This lives up to the hype it receives. Nose is good, very balanced but a bit hot. Nice smells of peanuts and vanilla. Palate is where this shines. Unique flavors of peanuts i’ve never got in another bourbon. So balanced. -
Nose- caramel apples, dill, black pepper, baking spices, rye bread Palate- Sweet apples, green jolly rancher, pineapple, gingerbread, caramel, light toasted oak, french vanilla Finish- long, chewy finish with notes of rye bread, vanilla, and baking spices OUTSTANDING. This is one of the top bourbons ive ever tried. The nose is beautiful, light and balanced- while still being very complex. The palate is amazing. Super unique, with notes of pineapple and green jolly ranchers- something i’ve never got in a bourbon before. My only complaint is I don’t have more.

Mic Drop 8 Year Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Bourbon — Indiana, USA
Reviewed January 23, 2020 (edited November 12, 2021)Nose- Spiced apples, coconut, caramel, vanilla, freshly toasted oak Palate- Spice and black pepper initially, buttery popcorn, red apples, french vanilla, cherry Finish- Long, bold finish that has a predominant note of black pepper spice with a slight buttery note Mmm. The palate really shines on this one. Nose is very balanced and not bad by any means, but the palate shines here. You’re hit with a wave of spiciness, followed by awesome flavors of popcorn, apples, and cherries. A final wave of spiciness washes over all the fruity flavors and leads to one of the longest finishes i’ve ever had. -
Nose- maple, malty, brown sugar, vanilla, peanut Palate- Orange, peanut oil, butterscotch, vanilla, heavy oak, cinnamon spice Finish- Medium, malty finish with notes of butterscotch and spice Very drinkable and unique whiskey. Great nose and great palate. Very balanced and fantastic flavors of peanut oil and butterscotch on the palate. Surprising amount of oak as well for 8 years of age- but not overpowering.

Nose- brown sugar, buttery toffee, caramel corn, milk chocolate, toasted oak Palate- creamy vanilla bean, rich toffee, spiced caramel, cherries Finish- Long, unique finish of a carbonated cherry-cola sofa I usually don’t use the word smooth to describe whiskey, but damn... this is smooth. Extremely balanced and tasty. The nose is fantastic- I love the caramel corn and buttered toffee notes. The palate is a bit underwhelming and not in your face but is very tasty and balanced with a very unique finish.
