    Less peat, but more sweetness nd honey than the Laphroaig 10, and lighterand sweeter than my favouriteIslay, the Laphroaig 18. A great peated whisky, now on my favourites list.

    This used to be an all-time favourite, but I find it a little short on peat these days, and Laphroaig 18 has taken over on taste and is significantly cheaper.

    This is really something special. Deep, rich flavours of damsons, plums and black and red berries. Outstanding, but hard to get as sells out almost instantly every year.

    Has just enough pot still flavour to make me wish I were drinking Redbreast 12. Fine for everyday and mixing, but doesn't have the depth and complexity for real enjoyment.

    Smoother and lighter than many of the Islay peaked whiskies. Doesn't quite make it as a favourite - I find the Laphroaig 18 similar but much more complex, and that is a favourite.

    Smoother than Ardbeg to my taste, and sweeter than Laphroaig. A great peaked whisky, but I'm always surprised to find that I prefer the Laphroaig when I go back to it.

    Much fuller and more complex than the 10 year. A good whisky. If you like this, though, try the 21-year which takes it to a whole new level.

    Jim Murray rates this above the Readbreast 12, but although they have similar flavours, I prefer the Readbreast. A great pot-still though.

    I guess that I don't have the right tastebuds to really appreciate port maturation, as neither this nor others do it for me. Pleasant, but not one I'd want to keep around.
