Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Seasoned Wood Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 26, 2016 (edited April 27, 2016)I sometimes wonder about write-ups like this. This is the first whiskey I've ever had that upon first sipping smell & sipping had the distinct flavor of dark fruits. Plum wine... Pomegranates resonate throughout. Influencing the nose, palate and swallow. Smooth throughout, it does benefit from a splash of water. -
Metze's Select Bourbon 2015 Medley
Bourbon — Indiana, USA
Reviewed February 18, 2016 (edited May 29, 2016)Was excited to hear that MPG was offering a bottling of their own juice. And that it was named after their master distiller was encouraging. While I admit to enjoying higher proof/barrel proof offerings. I find this first to market offering lacking in flavor and sipping like watered downed whiskey. It's certainly not worthy of its price tags. I'll not purchase it again. -
Black Saddle Bourbon 12 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky (bottled in California), USA
Reviewed February 18, 2016 (edited June 15, 2019)An amazing new mature bourbon with lots of licorice and subtler hints of flavorful coffe with heavy cream. With a medium viscosity there is a pleasant persistent tingle across the pallet ... No real burn or rye bite. This isn't exactly a dessert bourbon but it's close. Sampled neat... As all whiskey should be. -
Actually found a Bowmore 17 year old cask strength un filtered.bottle #137 of 266. The nose is pleasant with strongest aromas of mild pipe tobacco --- and an undercurrent of coffee with light cream. At 107.6 proof this whisky is incredibly smooth on the tongue. A pleasant tingle.. Slightly sweet... With the tobacco and coffee flavors still forward there's also a hint of Iodine. More of a tingle when swallowing Iodine jumps to the front. Not the best finish... But not totally unpleasant.

Kentucky Vintage Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 19, 2015 (edited September 14, 2017)This cheaper Bourbon is sourced @ bottled by the same folks who source Willet. It's ok for what it is. But for cheap bourbon I like Very Old Barton better. -
Old Medley 12 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky (bottled in California), USA
Reviewed December 16, 2015 (edited November 25, 2017)If you like Wathens (8 year old - Singke Barrel). You should love this. It comes from the same sources. The new 10 year old is fantastic too. -
Auchentoshan American Oak
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 16, 2015 (edited February 13, 2016)I sometimes wonder about the professional reviews I read. This professional reviews says it has coconuts tastes. Damned if my palet can taste it. The write up says it was aged in used Bourbon Barrels... I can't really taste that influence. I suspect the barrels had a light char and were used less than six years. In summary it's a somewhat expensive entry level scotch. -
Macallan Fine Oak 18 Year

Reviewed December 1, 2015 (edited April 24, 2018)This Scotch has an oh my God flavor. It's expensive and I save it for the most special occasions.
