Pretty smokey, a bit peaty, and a bit of citrus on the nose, which is actually quite strong. the smoke follows through on the palate, with a sweetness that turns salty/briney towards the finish. Pretty spicy up front, mellowing out towards the end. Very nice altogether. A great dram, but probably not my favorite Ardbeg expression.

Highland Park Dark Origins
Single Malt — Orkney, Scotland
Reviewed July 14, 2015 (edited January 17, 2016)Sherry is ever-present, to be sure. But hints of vanilla, citrus, and a touch of tobacco shine through on the palate. Spicy on the finish. Highland Park continues to impress! -
Deliciously sweet. A departure from the smokey peat I usually go for, but one that is very, very welcome. I get honey and lemon on the nose - I can actually picture a flakey, lemon pie if I close my eyes. Smooth mouthfeel with the sweetness of dessert following right along. Hints of cherry come through, as does a touch of smoke on the finish - just barely there. Mild spice that lingers for a bit. A really nice dram that borders on being too easy to drink!

Highland Park 18 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed March 15, 2015 (edited December 25, 2022)There's a lot going on here, but it comes together beautifully! Sweet and smokey on the nose, with apple, honey, and floral hints mingling amongst smoked bacon and peat. Velvety and thick in the mouth, with the sweet and smokey flavors following through to the palette, bringing hints of toffee and even a touch of funkiness along for the ride. Everything comes together in a dry, almost acidic finish that lingers and leaves me wanting more. I will be savoring every last drop of this bottle.
