Glenmorangie Lasanta Sherry Cask Finish 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed May 29, 2019 (edited June 1, 2019)Light oak and tar and honey on the nose with a bitterness at the end of the taste and a minimal finish. No spice at all. I enjoyed this dram even though my curt review may suggest otherwise😉 -
A smooth yet flavorful dram worth admission to a whisky cabinet. Fruit and subtle smoke, not peat, on the nose and tongue. Oak notes evaporate into a slight pepper on the finish. Read my friend Baldbruce’s review for a nice overview of our experience at Strathisla and a cask strength tasting of this and other Chivas expressions. I highly recommend this tasting if you go to the distillery.

I purchased this at the distillery. The tour was lead by the operations director Graeme Bowie. How often do you get a tour from the guy who runs the place? He was terrific!! This is bourbon cask aged 100%. Very light throughout the experience of this expression. Light vanilla oak and citrus on the nose. Subtle fruit and sugar cookie on the palate with a brief spice finish. This dram is impossible to dislike.

Tomintoul 15 Year Portwood Finish
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed May 14, 2019 (edited November 10, 2022)Honey and dried fruit on the nose followed by honey and candied fruit and caramel/toffee with port influence. A bit of caramel apple flavor ends the taste with a juicy fruit gum finish. A dessert dram of top shelf worth. -
Aberlour 1995 21 Year Old Malt Cask (Hunter Laing)
Single Malt — Speyside , Scotland
Reviewed May 13, 2019Honey and raisins on the nose and tongue with a bit of grassiness on the finish. Toffee is pronounced from start to finish. I got this from the Whisky Castle in Tomintoul. A rare bottle with excellent character!! The more I taste it I am convinced Granny Smith green apple is present in the flavor of this delightful dram.Tomintoul
