I tried it again against my other Japanese and Kavalan sherried whiskies and it's easily my least favorite. I'm just gonna use this bottle for mixed drinks where the sherry will be masked.

OBSQ recipe 9 years, 11 months 59.5% ABV JE warehouse, 15-3D barrel This is my first four roses single barrel private selection and I gotta say that I'm blown away. I found it at my local Costco and it's so much better than I thought it would be especially at that price point. I enjoy barrel strength, most notably Booker's, and usually sip them very slowly to get the full effect. This one goes down so smooth and is easy to drink. I'm not great with descriptors but it's full, rich and fruity. Peach up front followed by cherry on the finish. Never really put those two together like that. I went and looked up the OBSQ recipe because I was so intrigued. I didn't get much of the floral notes or the rye spiciness. It was just really well balanced. Now I've gotta find more of these and try some of the other recipes.

ugh, this was just not good. not balanced at all. hot up front even though it's only 40% abv. it has a weird finish, like an burnt aftertaste. I tried it in a highball thinking that it would be better but that aftertaste is still there. not sure what to do with this bottle.

I just have kavalan for the first time and I like it alot. it's smooth and really easy to drink, not super complex or anything. just very good and balanced. it reminded me of the first time I had Yamazaki in terms of the clean, neat finish. less fruit than Yamazaki, more vanilla and sweet notes.

so my expectations were really high when I found this bottle... they were completely met and probably even surpassed. I first got into HP because I could never handle the peat of islay scotch. HP18 is so good. it's more than just smooth and balanced, it's sublime. it sweet up front and then a thin layer of smoke comes in and fills your mouth. for me this is the perfect amount of smoke. the finish is fantastic and just hangs on to your tongue. this is one of the best whiskeys that I've ever had. can't wait to share it with friends.

I just found a bottle of HP18 so I decided to have it side by side with HP15. That was probably a mistake. I found the 15 to be unbalance. it just wasn't the same as I remembered it.

wow, I really like this. this might be my new go to bourbon if I can find it more often. it's chewy. lots of fruit and caramel. bottled at 47% abv but it's super clean and goes down easy. not hot at all.

it's a very nice single malt but I was hoping for alot more at that price and age. very light finish. maybe it because it's just 40% alc. there was nothing particularly memorable about it. I'll give it another shot when we have company so I can get a second opinion. maybe I wasn't in the right mood or I was just expecting way too much. I would much rather have some of my other aged single malts. bushmill 21 is my current favorite that I have. it feels much richer and more balanced than this 40 yr old. I was expecting something more like that.

I was a little afraid of the 63.6% alcohol but decided to have it without water to really taste it. love it! the sweet and heat slowly expands and covers your whole mouth. alot of caramel up front. wonderful finish. drink this slowly, small sips, and feel it warm you as it goes all the way down.

this is much better than I remembered. it smells like a burbon and drinks like a rye. alot of caramel up front but alot of spice. the finish is fantastic. lasts and lasts. very strong but still goes down easily. it's not something that i'd drink regularly. it's alot. but at the end of a long week, it's just the ticket.
