Glen Grant The Major's Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed May 5, 2017 (edited March 13, 2019)picked this up as I went through Amsterdam duty free on my way to Munich. I only had a few weeks to get through it (travelling through other countries with only carry on luggage) so figured why not get something easy to drink, something I wouldn't normally buy, and, if I didn't get through it, I wouldn't care if I left it behind. Fresh fruit on the nose, dried fruit on the palette with a hint of cocoa and slight nuttiness. Finish is short with some burn. To be honest, it drinks more like a blend. A couple drops of water only intensifies the dried fruit, nothing more. I've had worse, if that's something to be happy about. -
Old Forester 100 Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 3, 2017 (edited June 16, 2017)Takes the usual 86 proof version and bumps it up a notch as far as proof and flavor. While the 86 proof is a great intro sipper, this one requires a little more of a mature palette because of the extra heat. Well worth it though as it boasts more oak, more rich honey and more spice. Mixing this would be a shame, but for the price ($24 in FL) you wouldn't miss it too much.
