Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon (2015 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 7, 2016Good lord this is a good bourbon. Banana, vanilla and pineapple right up front. If that's the characteristic you like in your bourbon, you found it. Price is kinda high though. Something similar that's cheaper (but a little less profound) would be Old Forrester Original. Love them both. -

Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye
Canadian — Manitoba, Canada
Reviewed June 21, 2016 (edited December 12, 2016)I am Canadian. I am very happy that Jim Murray put Canadian whisky on the map (again). Do I think this is a whisky of the year candidate. No, not really. Is this a good whisky? Yup, it is. It can be used as a sipper or mixed into a cocktail very easily. Here in Ontario it costs $34. I'd take a $34 whisky that tastes like this as an everyday dram any day (love the 45 ABV too). Though I have to admit, for $5 more, I'd still go with the Lot 40 (one of the great Canadian whisky's that's been ignored until recently). -
I think I liked the Fusion better than this expression, but maybe that's because the Fusion is a little sweeter which may disguise the lower age. Can't argue with barley from the Himalayas though. Say that at a party and people will notice. Good little dram though. And it's always nice to have single malts from other regions other than Scotland (ya, I said it).

Auchentoshan Three Wood
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed June 21, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Anybody who likes their sweeter drams, this one would be a contender. Some serious fruit and caramel. It's an excellent bottle to have around the house for when you have guests over and they think they don't like scotch whisky. Sipping this would change many minds. -
Eagle Rare 17 Year Bourbon (Fall 2014)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 21, 2016 (edited September 6, 2017)I wish I was less of a novice when I tried this a few years ago. I want to try it again and hopefully appreciate it more. What I recall is that it was an exceptional bourbon that screamed of cinnamon and spice. I think a splash of water was necessary to take the heat away though. -
My go-too Islay mixing dram. I wouldn't sip this if I had the choice. But I love using this as a mixer. Ever had a gin martini? Try using a splash of this instead of the vermouth. I call it the burnt martini and it works on so many levels. I have now just made myself thirsty...get a bottle, you never know when you'll want to use it.
