Forged Oak 15 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky (bottled in Tennessee), USA
Reviewed June 7, 2017 (edited June 8, 2017)Straight- spice and oak right up front, followed by a light sweet vanilla warm finish. A few drops of water- sweet vanilla and oak, a lot of oak, nice warm finish -
The aroma is of heavy nail polish, try sipping without smelling first, the aroma will throw off your palette, you can definitely tell a difference by smelling or not smelling first. Straight- light peppery notes at first that quickly fades to a sweet vanilla flavor, warm finish that seems to lack depth. Drops of water- still a spicy start that fades to vanilla but then some of the leather, oak, and smoke starts to come thru, much better depth. This one really does respond well to a few drops of water. Overall a nice 20 year that's just needs to be handled correctly, find the right amount of water and it will shine.

Willett Family Estate Bottled 3 Year Straight Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 26, 2017 (edited May 27, 2017)Straight- soft smooth start, then the spice kicks in, nice complex burn of oak and caramel Add a few drops of water- the sweeter notes really come thru, vanilla, caramel, fruit. The spice and oak still shines thru and lingers for quite awhile. Overall a very nice complex rye worth the experience -
Mine is a single barrel store pick, barrel 251. Straight- sweet notes of vanilla and caramel right up front, followed by a light spiciness with soft oak undertones. Add a few drops of water- it softens the sweet notes and brings out more of the oak. Overall a good solid bourbon especially for the price.
