A Texan tries Balnton’s. On the nose new leather cowboy boots...the taste of freshly mowed alfalfa on the palette, giving way to a long finish of Big Red cola and partially melted dream sickle with hints of wet red clay and pickled okra. Just messin with ya. My unsophisticated opinion. This is mighty good bourbon. Buy it. Sip it. You will like it. You are welcome.

I am a relative newcomer to the single malt world. I’ve now completed a list of suggested core expressions for various flavor profiles to find my niche. For the most part my reaction was I’d rather be sipping a good bourbon. It’s less expensive and just as tasty. Then I tasted a dram of Talisker 10. Wow. I read this was James Bond’s fav. James Bond had good taste. Going forward I’ll be in search of more lightly peated, Smokey, spicey. and slightly sweet single malts. Meanwhile, I plan to keep a bottle of Talisker 10 on my shelf permanently.
