Tastes

As someone who enjoys sweet rums, this surprised me. I wasn't expecting much and was looking for that famous funk, but I was pleasantly surprised by the sweet nose and taste of caramel. A nice bottle to have around.

I was excited when I first picked this one up. The large container with the solid wood lid was impressive, as was the bottle with wood cap and deep reddish brown hue. The taste was fruity and sweet, reminding me most of cherry to cherry cream. There was a bit of toffee and caramel, and a woodiness as well. Tried with an ice cube kind of washed out the sweetness. Not as wonderful as the presentation suggested but still and overall tasty rum.

I was pleasantly surprised by this rum. It had a sweet nose and a sweet taste, toffee in particular. I do have a bit of a soft spot for sweet rums, though. This rum is a good value for the price.

This rum for me was just okay. In general I didn't get a lot more out of the nose than booziness, with one occasion noting a floral fragrance. The taste was mainly slightly woody with an occasional subtle sweetness / caramel. Overall though, I found this boozy for some reason. It was the most consistent thing I noted through the bottle, both with ice and without. I probably won't buy this particular bottle again with all the other choices out there.

A sweet nose when I opened the bottle, a hint of what I thought was plum on one occasion. The drinks starts slightly sweet with woody notes. There was a slight burn going down, but overall was pretty smooth. Overall I found that this rum was not overly complex and pretty good in a mix.

This rum generally starts with a sweet, flowery nose followed by a bit of oakiness and a very light sweetness. There was a hint of vanilla and perhaps caramel. I found it to be more mellow over ice. In general it had a smooth finish.

Had a bit of vanilla when I popped open the bottle and this followed up in the flavour, though I found it subtle. May have had a hint of chocolate. It provides a nice smooth finish.

I rather like this rum. I do have a soft spot for sweeter rums, and this one seems to favour vanilla with some hints of toffee and caramel. I also caught a bit of oakiness but it didn't overwhelm the sweetness. One of my previous tasting notes compared the taste to a butter pecan tart, but I didn't seem to get that this time.

This rum started with a bit of sweetness in the nose with a hint of almond. As Colombian rums go, this one wasn't as sweet as I was expecting. The sweetness was there but for me was more subtle. I found the oakiness to be stronger. There were also slight notes of vanilla and almond but not in every sip. A decent sipping rum but I have a bit of a sweet tooth so I like the sweeter rums a bit more.

Of the rums I have tried recently, this one had a taste that I couldn't quite identify the first few times I tried it. This last time I decided that leather best described what I was tasting, a first for me. Later on in the glass I could taste the oakiness that I had expected. Overall a nice sipping experience.
