Tyrconnell 16 Year Single Malt
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed March 25, 2019 (edited December 2, 2021)The nose has beautiful, light fruity aromas, honeycomb, shortbread sugar cookies, lemon zest and vanilla, which gives the impression of lemon cake. There’s also hints of fresh squeezed orange juice and spicy cedar wood. - To the palate it has a light fruity sweetness accompanied by complex spices and wood flavours. Orange juice, orange peel, honey, pears, light cereal malt and vanilla. - The finish is rich and oily, with continuing notes of wood spice along with the gentle sweetness. Dry oak with a slight smoky barrel char lingering at the end. — Malt Mark: 92 — I really like this one! Also, it went very well with the dark, earthy spice of the cigar. I will definitely be interested in trying more expressions of this lovely Irish Single Malt!98.85 CAD per Bottle -
An incredibly bold nose with distinct aromas of caramel and smoky barrel char. Green apple fruitiness is still present, now accompanied with a rich candied cherry note. Soft to the palate, though this one is more astringent than the other two. Dark caramel, wood spice, maraschino cherry, strong vanilla. The spirit character of green apple and honey is present, but very much in the background, though the granular sugar texture remains at the finish. — Grain Mark: 8339.95 CAD per Bottle

The stout beer aromas are immediately apparent, with coffee, chocolate and vanilla with the typical Jameson aromas of orchard fruit and floral honey. To the palate I find this one much more exciting, with the same flavours as the standard expression, but also layers of stout beer, dark hops, chocolate malt and hints of coffee layered on with a creamy texture that reminds of a frothy beer head. — Grain Mark: 8039.95 CAD per Bottle

On the nose it has aromas of sweet vanilla, lemon zest, strawberry jam, shortbread cookies, baked apples and fresh banana bread with warm butter. - To the palate it tastes of honey, ripe pears, malted barley, vanilla, chocolate, and subtle oak. - In the finish it is very clean and fresh with subtle fruity sweetness, vanilla and a touch of spice. — With a drop of water, it remains sweet with a touch more citrus on the nose and spice to the palate. —//— Malt Mark: 82 —//— This is a very pleasant, easy drinking, sweet and gentle whisky, as you would expect from an Irish Whiskey. It smells fantastic!47.95 CAD per Bottle

Pike Creek 21 Year Finished in European Oak
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed December 19, 2018 (edited February 4, 2020)I am immediately recognizing the aromas of New Hungarian Oak and corn whisky reminiscent of that Bearface whisky I’ve tried recently. — On the nose there is a deep, dark woodiness to this one, like a slightly damp forest floor, some pepper notes from the French Oak and a pleasant fruitiness of the well aged corn spirit itself. It smells amazing! Savory spices, oak wood shavings and cedar, new leather, oily wood furniture polish, maple sugar and some sweet, smoky wood, like starting a fire. - To the palate it is very gentle to start with a building flavour of complex spices and savory wood notes. Warming in the mid palate, some sweet fruity notes, maple syrup, vanilla, pepper, leather and then more oak with subtly sweet cigar tobacco flavour hinting towards cedar. - The finish is drying with rich wood flavours mingled with tingling wood spices. The French and Hungarian new oak barrels are really showing their presence here. — Think Cognac, made with corn instead of grapes, the European Oak has that much presence in this whisky. — With a small splash of water, I find the nose to be more sweet wood and fruity with a hint of roasting hazelnuts. To the palate it is more flat and integrated, but then the spices start collecting in the finish where the oak lingers long on the back of the tongue. More dry, more savory. —//— Grain Mark: 8999.95 CAD per Bottle -
On the nose the aromas are powerfully intense! Sweet, dark brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, cherry lozenges, cola nut, oak wood, barrel char, oiled leather, coffee, and a hint of bright citrus. - To the palate it is punishing with the intensity of flavour and alcohol! Sweet, dark caramel hits first with a zing of spice and cinnamon leading to an incredibly warming experience with cherry syrup, vanilla, brown sugar, chocolate and a hint of lemon zest. It has a rich syrupy mouthfeel. - The finish leaves the tongue numb! Smoke, cloves, rye spice, tobacco and a long, lingering sweet oak flavour reside. — With a splash of water, the nose is much more approachable. To the palate it is still aggressive and more rye spiciness appears, along with wood bitterness. Cherry candy and lemon zest burst towards the finish. —//— Bourbon Mark: 97 —//— This stuff is phenomenal! The first time I tried it, I immediately went back for more, and I’m pretty sure it peeled all the skin off the inside of my mouth! - The power and intensity isn’t all that’s going on here, there’s also a lot of complexity and rich, delicious flavours! If I had to sum it up, I’d say it resembles Cherry Cola. - I definitely recommend water to protect your senses and also to open this whisky up to reveal all it has to offer.84.95 CAD per Bottle

I would never peg this as Glenfiddich blind, but I do enjoy the woody peat smoke aroma that gives way to reveal sweet rum toffee. The peat presents itself as being quite peppery in the palate with a layered smokiness among the rum cask flavours and a hint of the typical Glenfiddich green apple hiding way in the back.79.95 CAD per Bottle
