Christian Drouin XO Calvados
Calvados — Calvados Pays d'Auge, France
Reviewed October 17, 2016 (edited August 21, 2022)Bouquet touched with caramelized sugars, macademia nut, and fig suggests a rich body, but the palate is actually rather dry, sitting forward on tongue with a bracing but not hot midpalate; finishes relatively light and a bit boxy in structure overall. -
4.25. "Supple", it's been called, and fairly so. More almond, marshmallow, saturated cacao, and a little more oxidization than the 8, plus a touch more nuance and a softer nose, allowing its depth to unfold more expressively and evenly over the midpalate and through a lingering finish, less overtly sweet but still sufficiently rich for a long aftertaste of softly burnt sugars/maraschino.
