Kirkland 20 Year Speyside Single Malt Sherry Cask Finish
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 9, 2018 (edited November 17, 2019)Don’t be fooled by whiskey snobs on here who have convinced themselves that throwing relative value to the wind is an acceptable practice- for $55 this is a great 20 year staple scotch that eclipses many scotches at the $100 price point - And I should end this rant there; however: It’s spicy, has and above average complexity, it’s a little softer than the 18, the mouth feel is ... meaah, but the finish is quite satisfying. All n’ all the flavors are just a little disjointed in comparison to say... a center cut macallan at 7 times the price, but for the money you can’t go wrong. This is definitely worth picking up a few bottles next time you’re at Costco. 👍🏼 -
Really really sweet, almost too sweet, like drinking candy. It’s a Carmel overload that lacks depth. The finish is smooth and shows the age .. but it’s pretty one dimensional - Alternatively I would suggest one considers- (in the real world); four roses single barrel, Elijah Craig barrel proof, Jefferson ocean CS, knob creek BP. 👍🏼

Kavalan Concertmaster Port Cask Finish Single Malt
Single Malt — Taiwan
Reviewed July 25, 2018 (edited July 2, 2021)Idk about paying one hundred clams for this bottle....- but it’s really well balanced and smooth- not necessarily complex, but won’t disappoint. It’s dark looking - and regardless of added color I still prefer a dark “scotch” - for example; Hedonism is so damn tasty but it’s color throws me way off- it looks like a Chardonnay and tastes like a beast. So, added color in scotch you say? I’ll take it. -
Great, more super expensive NAS whisky being released to slowly ween consumers off age statements - it seems as if whiskey companies are working harder on marketing these days to brainwash people using high prices, unknown recipes, FOMO, and fancy boxes. Personally - I won’t be participating in any NAS whisky above $130 whatsoever, but if someone wants to buy me a sample - I’ll try it. 😃 cheers to age statements!

Here’s the deal (correct me if I’m wrong) I have Corry, and Oogie- they are both fantastic and different enough to stand on their own. However, I recently cracked open a few bottles of grooves and kelpie and I feel like I’m basically tasting some sort of reconnoitering of their same NAS whiskey with new names and marketing- I think my bitch is that because of the lack of age statements I’m only deciphering char and vatting for most new ardbegs- not aging... it feels kinda like I’m eating at lunch Buffett where they serve the same 5 things daily - but just mix it together In different amounts and put a differ label on it.. somebody please tell me otherwise.
