Glen Scotia 15 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed January 22, 2023 (edited February 19, 2023)I love this Scotch. Really wonderful. Aroma is of cracker and briny sea notes. Flavor is rich, full and complex. Salty pretzel stick, tasted bread, light fruit just below the surface. Water really opens this and produces some menthol and mint. Salt comes farther forward as well. Finish is big, wide and long. Sticks to your ribs. Lovely -
Really interesting. The Aroma fooled me and initially showed some youth. But all else showed this wasn't the case. Hazelnut Aroma.... Mouthfeel is among the most oily I've ever had. Flavor is rich and of winter spice. Deeper than standard Rye spice. Although there is a mint component for sure. Fruit notes and also the nuttiness again. Notes of pine and definitely good oak depth. Not sure I'd say hazelnut like Aroma, but we'll go with it. Nice and warming on the finish... Time for a few drops of water. Spice explodes with water and brings out hot cinnamon. Some menthol as well.

Definitely get the Rum notes right out of the shoot on the Aroma. Banana, brown sugar and notes of the rum itself. Very nice. Actually opens up and is nice. Glad I waited to review this deeper in the bottle. When I first opened it, "the neck pour" was OK, but nothing special. The bottle has definitely opened. Mouth feel is rich and almost oily. The rum takes a back seat in the flavor, much more than in the Aroma. Essentially provides depth and later adds to the finish. Pine notes, some cedar, black pepper and still brown sugar. Finish is wonderful. Almost like your chewing on it for about 45 seconds to a minute. Great to take your time through the glass. Yeah it's real good

Bardstown Bourbon Co. Fusion Series #5
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 15, 2023 (edited March 5, 2023)Aroma is candy like and mostly sweet. Maybe some candy corn with the lightest note of baking spice. Flavor matches the Aroma in that it's mostly a sweet bourbon with a hint of young bourbon flavor. Some fruit notes and apple are present. A few drops of water have an interesting impact. Aroma becomes much more muted. But flavor expands greatly. Much more depth with maple and spice. Now some cinnamon and some lingering notes of Oak. Finish is better this way and water is a must here. Still, not one for the ages....
