Only Premium Gin
Distilled Gin — SpainTastedLots of botanicals with a distinctive Spanish flair. Less expensive than Gin Mare, but I’m sticking with GM for the G&T. Sooo good with Fever Tree Med Tonic and fresh citrus peel in a balloon glass Spanish style.
The Gin Factory - Rosemary Gin
Distilled Gin — ScotlandTastedWith the popularity of Eden Mill Rose creating a shortage on local shelves, I went looking for a substitute. While Rosemary Gin lacks that wonderful floral bitterness of Hibiscus, it more than makes up for it with the depth that the culinary herb brings to the party. Great pairing with Fever Tree Mediterranean tonic in a G&T.
Distilled Gin — Illinois, USATastedBig and bold, but not brutish. Really stands out when paired with a quality tonic, like Top Note, in a G&T. Superb in a Gibson. Clean, distinctive, delicious.
Ferdinand's Saar Dry Gin
Flavored Gin — GermanyTastedVery floral and aromatic but also herbal and earthy. The melange of botanicals is not muddled, as I was expecting, but instead is a knife edge balancing act. “Poor man’s Monkey 47” the hawker said. After some skepticism I am warming to the idea, but this is its own (refined) beast of a gin.
Distilled Gin — SpainTastedVery different botanical profile. Not as herbal as the tasting notes would indicate. Surprisingly more citrus than I expected. Made a phenomenal G&T with Navy Hill original tonic.
Real Spirits Gin
Modern Gin — Texas Hill Country, USATastedHeavy eucalyptus aroma that translates to menthol on the palate. This is the supposed influence of a botanical unique to this gin, the succulent called bottlebrush. Underpinned by a citrusy, peppery base with a slightly sweet malty taste. Excels in a Martini or G&T with a high gin:mixer ratio.Houston
Green Hat Classic Gin
Distilled Gin — Washington, DC, USATastedBatch #299. Robust juniper and quite spirity given it is only 41.6% abv. Stands up to the strongest flavored tonics in a G&T.
District Made Ivy City Gin
Modern Gin — Washington D.C., USATastedGreat in a G&T. The unusual grain bill gives it a creamier mouthfeel with a little spiciness and pepper from the botanicals and rye grain.
Cazul 100 Reserva Silver Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Jalisco, MexicoTastedMild citrusy peppery aroma, not super aromatic. Very smooth more vegetal on the palate, more citrus, peppery heat at the end. Typical agave aroma and flavor in the background. Not my sipping tequila, but s good candidate. A high quality cocktail tequila is it’s role on my shelf.
Don Sergio Blanco
Tequila Blanco — Jalisco, MexicoTastedSharply aromatic nose; floral and strong agave aroma. More on the citrus and tropical fruit end of the scale than vegetal/peppery. Clean light finish with more agave hitting. You could drink it straight, but I put it in my prickly pear margarita and it’s perfect. Mid-price Total Wine house brand.
