Bib & Tucker 10 Year Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed October 23, 2022 (edited May 5, 2023)This is my second taste. I opened the bottle 10 months ago, a Christmas present, and remember it having a very unique flavor, dissimilar to most typical bourbon profiles. But this time around I was completely underwhelmed and found it rather unexceptional. That being said, it was still a good sip, just nothing to write home about. Edit: 3rd taste. Flip-flop exhibit here… definitely a unique flavor. Damp morning campfire is the image the flavor is evoking. Still not feeling great about this one, though. -
It’s a scorcher right out of the gate, which isn’t all surprising considering the abv. But, what is surprising is how much flavor punches right through that fire with hardly a moment’s hesitation. It’s what “new car scent” would be if it were a flavor. And, not that I’d know it, but it’s what I imagine a new Ferrari might smell like. We’re not talkin’ about a cloth interior Corolla here. And just like that car interior aroma slowly fades until it’s barely perceptible, the flavors here do the same thing. Linger, linger, linger until they’re a mere hint and then nothing but a vague memory.

Old Elk Single Barrel Wheated Bourbon
Bourbon — (bottled in) Colorado, USA
Reviewed September 18, 2022This impressive bottle has rendered me unimaginative for my review tonight. It’s good. Really, really good. Top to bottom, start to finish. That is all. -
The Hammer Old Line American Single Malt Whisky Double Oaked Pork Cask Finish PWS
American Single Malt — USA
Reviewed September 17, 2022It’s awful neat. It’s awful on the rocks. BUT… it can be the basis for some damn fine cocktails in the right hands (not mine). -
This bottle from PA FWGS is like a variety box of instant oatmeal. It is just a little hot on the nose, but with some maple and brown sugar instant oatmeal packet peeking through. First taste on the palate is still instant Quaker oatmeal but now we’re on to that one with raisins. I think it’s called Raisins and Spice maybe. Finish is again a bit hot, but I’m reward with something that hints at a packet of apples and cinnamon. Maybe I should just start drinking this KC SB in the morning?

Old Forester Single Barrel Bourbon Barrel Strength
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 12, 2022 (edited November 4, 2022)The ethanol nose (fumes!) could choke a donkey, but it when it hits your lips, swirls around your mouth and down your throat the beautiful flavors burst through the gaseous cloud of ethanol and making everything okay in the world. -
Wolcott Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 9, 2022 (edited October 13, 2022)Really strong and sweet vanilla nose that crosses paths with an equally strong alcohol presence. But on the palate the vanilla settles in nicely and the burn fades leaving Bubble Double chewing around your mouth. Finish drops off and disappears quickly, but leaves a hint cinnamon to remind you of what just passed.
