Straight Edge Bourbon
Bourbon — Tennessee and Kentucky (Finished and Bottled in California), USA
Reviewed March 24, 2022Agreed with others, honey and vanilla dominate the palate and finish, which just happen to be my 2 favourite flavours for bourbon. If you want to stronger finish look elsewhere for a bigger ABV, but this one punches quite well in its weight class. A must buy again!Sobeys - Cranston -
Having had the base Redemption bourbon and enjoying it, I thought I’d try this wheat Ed one despite the premium price. I really wanted to like it more, and I did, when enjoying an afternoon of whiskey tasting with this one in the mix. However on its own I struggled with it…The finish is a nice spice but before that the wheat comes through a bit sour, and I yearned for a Weller to get my wheated fix. Overall, glad I tried it, but won’t rush back to this particular Redemption iteration.Calgary International Airport (YYC)

Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 23, 2022 (edited March 26, 2022)Smoky hot fire. Too much to discern many flavours, but like the spicy leather analogy. Likely wouldn’t purchase again -
Glenfarclas 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 17, 2022 (edited May 8, 2022)Not terrible but not my favourite Bit heavy on the grains/cereal on the palate, and do not pick up much sherry. finish is decent at it’s abv, but won’t blow you away. Too many other 12 years deserve my attention.Calgary AB -
Interesting whiskey which I honestly struggled with initially. Like other Japanese selections the nose and palate is complex right out of the gate…semisweet but also medicinal/minty/hot. At any rate, the first half bottle was a struggle, however after time the palate and finish became more a woody slightly peaty experience which helped immensely. For that reason I would recommend and buy again.Calgary AB

Holy bananas Batman! This is definitely a sweeter dessert style scotch. The nose is fruity and bananas. The palate follows this theme and the finish adds a bit of zing, but not really any heat. I strangely enjoyed it actually, and would recommend to others as long as you set the expectation around the sweetness level. Skip the chocolate cake after your fancy steak and pour a dram of this instead!Calgary AB

Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey (Discontinued)
American Single Malt — Colorado, USA
Reviewed December 8, 2021 (edited January 28, 2022)This one proved quite popular with group of friends over tasting various whiskies, who tend to like ryes and lighter bourbons. Full bodied and flavourful, it starts strong on the palate and does very well with a few ice cubes tossed in. Finish has some sherry undertones. enjoyed!Calgary AB
