Casey Jones Small Batch Bourbon Whiskey (Black Label)
Bourbon — Hopkinsville, Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 10, 2023Received as a gift. Nursed it for several months given the high abv. Only really enjoyed the last third actually as was quite hot even with a couple small ice cubes, but magically the flavour opened up after being open and slowly emptied over the first 5-6 months. Unsure I’ll purchase for myself, maybe if on sale! -
New Riff Kentucky Straight Bourbon Bottled In Bond
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 24, 2022Plenty of heat here but not overwhelming. Hints of vanilla but not much. Decent but wouldn’t rush back to it. -
Boulder Spirits American Single Malt Sherry Cask Finish
American Single Malt — Colorado, USA
Reviewed December 16, 2022Fairly straightforward whiskey with a touch more character than the regular Boulder, which is an affordable go to bourbon in my closet. This one hints at sherry but doesn’t hit you in the face with it, so temper your expectations if that’s your thing. Overall enjoyed however unsure it’s with the $10 premium over the standard bottleCalgary Tower -
Blair Athol 2007 11 Year (Berry Bros. & Rudd)
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed June 20, 2022Superb! In a rush so that is all. -
First off, gorgeous deep caramel colour, reminding me of my favourite scotch. Nose of ethanol, then the hot citrus hits your cheeks upon the first dram. Finish is medium, complex and only slightly satisfying. If it were $20 cheaper I’d say it’s interesting enough to buy again, but at its price point I’ll reach for a different premium bourbon next time.
