A dark character, that is full of self assurance and vigor. We really enjoyed the effect that the ex-whiskey cask aging had on this spirit. Lending a sweetness, and familiar chewiness, this tequila has a lot going on. First a lot of wood, creating a tight and dry entry, then switching to a patina of sweet, yet oaky intensity. There are some notes of butterscotch, caramel and vanilla, but mostly a plethora of wood stave, lending a spicy and toasty sensation on the palate. Definitely designed for sipping, we recommend serving over single large rock of ice.

Jose Cuervo Tradicional Cristalino
Tequila Reposado — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed May 4, 2022Very smooth and elegant entry with a vanilla forward overtone. The agave flavor is clean, fresh and warm. What is most intriguing about this spirit is the blend of differing woods and agings. There is a fair amount of dry tannin in the overall character, but it is well balanced by the agave, almost giving it a sweet corn similarity. We definitely recommend this as a sipper, but it will also work as a stellar highlight in an anejo cocktail. A welcome addition to the Cuervo portfolio! -
The nose is bright, woody and elegant. A dry and lightly sweet entry, with a hefty dose of oak cask. A round character on the mid-palate, while there is a somewhat tannic edge towards the sides of the tongue. Very friendly and full of character, this is a great spirit for tropical styled cocktails and aged rum forward classics. We appreciate the care and unique aspect that went into the crafting of this rum, and fully support their efforts to go the extra mile to keep our planet sustainable.

St. George Pear Brandy
Eau-de-Vie — California, USA
Reviewed April 19, 2022 (edited September 7, 2022)A lovely freshly cut pear aroma greets the nose. Very fruit forward flavor with a round and somewhat creamy mouthfeel. The pear character comes through loud and clear. This is one of the best tree fruit brandies we’ve ever had the pleasure of reviewing. Obviously, they know what they are doing at St. George. We do like this as a digestif, but also it is amazing in a variety of brandy based cocktails. -
St. George Bruto Americano
Bitter Liqueurs — California, USA
Reviewed April 19, 2022 (edited September 22, 2023)Softly bitter and mildly sweet, this is a very drinkable aperitivo. In some ways reminiscent of sweet vermouth married to a kraut liqueur, the flavor is expressive, highly herbal and well balanced. We’ve been enjoying a small glass before dinner, but also it is a great addition to your cocktail arsenal used in traditionally bracing cocktails such as the Negroni, Americano and Boulevardier. Another winner from St. George. -
A dry, juniper forward gin with a healthy dose of citrus. It may be our imagination, but there also seems to be a salinity here which ramps up the flavors and brings them to the fore. After several seconds, notes of orange zest and peppercorn come through, ending with a near creamy mouthfeel. Quite tasty and zesty. Definitely try this with a top quality tonic, or if so inclined, a Winston Churchill style martini.

GlenDronach Port Wood
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 3, 2022 (edited April 15, 2024)Here again, the fruit forward nose is apparent with dried fig, date, raisin and current. The overall taste is of berries, chocolate, and plenty of oak. A delicate balance between these two elements passes back and forth. A dry and slightly creosote character brings things to a fine finish. -
GlenDronach Parliament 21 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 3, 2022 (edited November 30, 2024)Very complex with a somewhat musty sherry nose. Darker notes of coffee bean and walnut bitters add to the intrigue. The flavor has the expected sweetness, but this is remarkably tempered by the amount of wood that has been infused over two decades. Over the finish, notes of dark cherry, pecan and bitter chocolate bring the journey to a close.
