Highland Park Dark Origins
Single Malt — Orkney, Scotland
Reviewed July 7, 2019 (edited November 3, 2019)Think Glenlivrt Founders Reserve but with the full body and character of typical of most Isle scotch. N: citrus, honey, fruity, rich, sweet P: Sweet, fruity with vanilla on the tongue, touch of peat?, citrusy orange note peaking through reminds me of orange creamcicle F: Sweet and smooth, if it weren't for the back up fruity notes this would literally taste like I just ate an orange creamcicle with a touch of peat. I like this bc the orange comes out of nowhere on the back and lasts into the finish. If you want this straight, DO IT! Would be my preference. Could see this as an interesting choice in Cocktails. Definitely would need it to be spirit driven to not lose complexity. -
N: peat forward with, fruity notes trying to Pierce through P: Fruity and peat reverse with the Sherry taking over, though peat remains and recovers on the mid to back palate become leathery and fruity F: leathery with tobacco and fruity, fairly smooth, long length...mostly bc peat never dies, haha. Overall good scotch. Definitely more restrained than Nikka SFTB. Reminds me of Lagavulin 8 but less fruity and herbal. Very dark color. Not bad but can see why many may see it as the ugly step child of Nikkas core. The Coffeey grain and Malt have the complexity this lacks. Would buy for novice scotch drinker, but probably not for self. Would spend the extra on the Coffey line or their Single malts.

N: Sweet with Sherry notes and candied fruit not rich but also light, faint Briny quality(very muted) P: milk chocolate, medium spiciness, stewed fruits, mellows as its chewed and becomes rounder. Typical Sherry note come through after several sips (~3) F: Sweet, fruity, malted chocolate, smooth, medium length ☹️ Great entry scotch. Wish Sherry played a larger role on finish...personal bias. Would buy for guests or as a shelf whiskey for playing around with in Cocktails. 2 drops in about a 1/2 Oz pour make all the difference in opening it up. Worth the buy or try if available at a bar or on sale at local store. Personal retail around 40usd.

Think about this in the realm of Irish Single Malts with my rating. Not the entire world of SMs. That rating would be around a 3 - 3.25 in terms of Character and profile. N: Sweet/honeyed with white fruits and bright, citrusy orange notes with slight hints of milk chocolate P: Sweet, if not candied fruits and nougat start with rich orange peel toward the back F: medium length, milk chocolate, sweet and fruity, creamy as it ends I lives this for the price. Especially for those wanting an inexpensive SM not from Scotland. Could easily using in a cocktail. I'll typically drink neat in glencairn.

Clynelish Reserve (Game of Thrones-House Tyrell)
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed June 7, 2019 (edited February 15, 2020)Idk if it's the fact the I love Cask Strength whiskey but this does not drink like the description had me expect. Well balanced start to finish. N: Mineral/honey sweet and light P: Rich with nougat and sweet/honey fruit notes. F: lovely finish with the medium burn I want out of a Cask Strength. The sweet fruity notes linger but not so long that it over stays it welcome...you know like the Tyrrells. -
Springbank 10 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed June 7, 2019 (edited November 30, 2019)This is what I think of when I drink Isle scotch. N: Briny, oily, light peat prescence, tropical fruit P: pear notes remain with peat coming forward as it rolls around and warms up F: full brine and peat. The ocean and earth welcome you home with a nice hug. Finish is medium in length. -
Basil Hayden's Caribbean Reserve Rye (Discontinued)
Rye — Multiple Countries
Reviewed June 7, 2019 (edited August 10, 2019)Rated on the basis of a finished whiskey. True score across whiskey spectrum would be about 3.25... If you don't want to read further I'd place this between Angela Envy Rye and the Knob Creek Maple Syrup in terms of profile. N: warm welcoming Rye spices and sweet brown sugar notes....great now I want breakfast P: Baking spice sweeten into a nutty syrupy profile. Viscous but not thick like maple syrup. Reminds me of nut bread with syrup drizzled over it. Awesome now I got my breakfast. F: Repeat N and P but things start to mellow. Not short but not too long. Baking spices and those sugar notes don't go away begging you to pour more. If you aren't a fan of sweet whiskey don't buy this. If you aren't a fan of barrel finishing...don't buy this. Would be interesting to use in place of rum in cocktails. Should just drink straight though. Never disliked a Product of their's except the pricing and availability of the 10. Will buy again. -
Interestingly honey sweet nose. Agree with the honey toast note. Overall interesting and intriguing but not mind blowing for an international whiskey. Balanced. Could mistake it for a Highland Scotch in blind tasting. N: honey sweet, fruity P: candied fruit, dessert like, smooth, milk chocolate, bready/nutty F: fruit, short, sweet with a little burn on the back

I love Japanese whiskey but have trouble getting above a 4 with this. I wish it had more body and complexity. N: light, sweet, nutty P: nutty and viscous, Sherry immediately presents itself unlike nose, rich fruity notes as it sits on tongue, almost has a bitter quality to it F: Dry wine finish, the Sherry has definitely taken over. If you like a side of grain whiskey with your Sherry you'll love this. NOT the other way around. That's why I gave this a lower score. Needs balance.

Stolen American Whiskey 11 Year
Other Whiskey — Florida, USA
Reviewed May 25, 2019 (edited February 14, 2020)If you don't like finishes or whiskey that's stave finished don't buy this. If you do continue reading. You may like this. N:Sweet, smoky (think wood smoke not peat smoke) P: still sweet but the toasted oak notes start to pull forward. The marshmallow mention on the bottle tag begins to make sense. For me I picture sitting at a campfire either watching them melt into the flames or making smores. F: Sweet burnt wood, pit BBQ, smooth but does have spicy burn Well balanced overall. Rating reflects versatility and less the quality. As stated this is not a purists whiskey at all but a treat for the adventurer. Would pair with BBQ, hiking and a beautiful campfire in the mountains. Cheers!
