Bainbridge Yama Whiskey
Single Grain — Washington, USA
Reviewed August 30, 2018 (edited July 21, 2020)Lean on the front end but with a rich, long finish. Not what I expected from a rye but very pleasant. -
Booker's Bourbon Batch 2017-04 Sip Awhile
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 4, 2018 (edited June 9, 2018)Wow, that's a spicy meat-a-ball! Cinnamon, cloves, jalapeno. Big spice, long and tingly finish. -
Laphroaig Càirdeas 2017 Cask Strength Quarter Cask Edition
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed January 8, 2018Lots of peat on the nose but the peat is much more balanced by the sweet malt on the palate. Sweet peat. Then somewhere in between on the long finish. -
Appleton Estate Joy Anniversary Blend
Aged Rum — Jamaica
Reviewed January 8, 2018 (edited April 24, 2018)Cramel and toffee on the nose. Maybe a hint of mango. Rich on the palate, rich on the finish, which goes on forever. Creamy citrus. The real story here is the finish, though. -
Cognac Dudognon Heritage
Cognac — Grande Champagne, France
Reviewed November 30, 2017 (edited December 1, 2022)Ooh, interesting. The rancio is apparent even in the nose, although the rest of the nose is overwhelmed by alcohol (despite only 41% ABV!). There may be some maple syrup hiding in there. On the palate is a light, gentle tingle that gradually concentrates into viscous vanilla - elegant, though, not overpowering. Somehow it maintains a texture that is both thick and light. The finish evaporates sends oak right up the nose but maintains the mouth tingle with no fire down the throat. Truly quite interesting. -
Mount Gay 1703 Master Select Rum
Aged Rum — Barbados
Reviewed November 30, 2017 (edited December 27, 2018)Rich caramel on the nose with star fruit and other tropical notes. Doubly rich on the palate, viscous and round. Not for the faint of heart; there's more fire in this than the 43% ABV would lead you to believe. Lonnnnnnnng, tingly finish that keeps coming in waves. Wow, that's a rum!
