Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 11, 2020 (edited March 3, 2020)Finally got around to buying a bottle of this to much mixed fanfare. Some love it, some seem to hate it, and most seem pissed that the price jumped. Nose comes as vanilla and a bit of nuttiness to me. Taste is not quite what I expected. Starts with a full bodied almost fruity quality then morphs into a pepperness you would normally find in a very high rye mash. This slowly burns off to a slow cinnamon heat finish. Overall glad I tried it, but doesn't hit the mark on my expectations. Just seems like this one is a bourbon that wants to be a rye when it grows up, but got lost along the way.50.0 USD per Bottle -
Always feel special being the first to review a dram. This is a new Distillery owned by a Michigander that got the whiskey bug. Nose is mellow and comes off of fresh baked rye bread. As you take the first sip it immediately is apparent this isn't a typical rye. Hints of honey and almond come through that you would normally associate with straight bourbon. A more reserved pepper finish follows with a mild bite. Very nice if not different that other ryes on the market.45.0 USD per Bottle

Red Spot 15 Year Single Pot Still
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed February 9, 2020 (edited February 8, 2024)Definitely catch the sherry on the nose from the start with some fresh fruit scents thrown in. Sip is incredibly smooth on this gem as you get drawn into a fabulous cinnamon raisin bread taste followed by a slow cinnamon burn. This may be my favorite Irish Whiskey. If you are an Irish fan and find this buy it on the spot. You will send me thanks later!115.0 USD per Bottle -
Cask strength Irish are not overly common. Nose of this conjures thoughts of sweet dried fruit. As you take a sip you you get a little of the dried fruit and cinnamon before being drawn into an overshadowing mango habanero burn that lingers for a decent length. Overall quite an enjoyable glass.85.0 USD per Bottle

Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch A120
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 7, 2020 (edited June 17, 2021)This one is fun. A relatively poor expert score, but solid user reviews. Nose is sweet with, but a tad ethanol heavy. First sip is a flood of caramel and brown sugar. A strong cinnamon burn rises quickly and slowly recedes. Truth be told I don't love larceny, but this is a very nice poor.60.0 USD per Bottle -
Store pick so slight difference to the regular shelfer. Nose is very light with no stand out notes. Initial taste is a bit spicey as if it has a heavy rye mash. After an initial pepper burn it mellows nicely to reveal hints of vanilla and mild brown sugar. Closes with a medium burn and light cinnamon close. Decent sip at the price point and defintely preferred to the Buffalo Trace and Larceny entry level pours.35.0 USD per Bottle

Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Batch Proof 123.2
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 26, 2020 (edited July 3, 2020)Smooth. That is what immediately comes to mind on the nose of brown sugar. First sip is almost syrupy as the flavors seem stronger than the liquid can handle. Vanilla, butter, and brown sugar wash over as a long lasting burn builds and simmers on your tongue. This is fairly spectacular stuff.130.0 USD per Bottle -
Well like the label on Alice's bottle the nose of this one says "Drink Me"! Very fruit forward nose from the Sherry finish. Flavor is heavily influenced by the finishing. Dark berries and subtle brown sugar give way to a moderate cinnamon burn finish. This is probably at the top of my Scotch list (full disclosure I am not a huge Scotch drinker).
