Lagavulin 16 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 12, 2021 (edited February 18, 2021)Like eating a bowl of steel cut oats by a fire on the beach. Sea spray mixes with smoke and blows right in your face. It's perfectly sweet, bone dry and smoky, with just enough seaweed and brine to counter the sweet malt and bbq smoke -
Johnnie Walker Green Label 15 Year
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed February 11, 2021 (edited September 1, 2021)Wet heather, honey, rich malt, not sure how much Talisker or Caol Ila is used but the smoke is only an accent like a storm cloud in the distance, shadows of mushroom, a hit of spindrift in the finish, lingering orange oil, smooth, like Cardhu with an edge. I would order it at a bar for sure. I'd probably keep a bottle for nights I'm not in the mood for heavy smoke. -
Big Peat Blended Malt
Blended Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 7, 2021 (edited March 6, 2022)Back to back with Ardbeg: smoother, oilier, less smoke & char, a better flavor overall but still not worth the extra $30 -
Highland Park Magnus
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed February 7, 2021 (edited March 19, 2021)Very light, hints of honey and orchard fruit, something deep down that's reminiscent of iodine but if I didn't know any better I'd have expected it to be unpeated, doesn't commit to any one flavor profile but it is incredibly smooth, for a second I thought the bartender was watering it downFresco Italiano -
Glen Grant 10 Year

Glenfiddich Reserve Cask
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 6, 2021 (edited November 22, 2021)Chewy cereal, flowers, tea, sweet sherry -
Glenfiddich Select Cask
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 6, 2021 (edited March 19, 2021)Buttery, floral, wet heather, a little hot without water, almost Irish but with a more mature finish, tobacco and black pepper -
Big Peat Blended Malt
Blended Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed January 27, 2021 (edited August 1, 2024)Nothing I don't like about it, but for the money I think I'd rather just go with Ardbeg or Laphroaig. Nice peat, obviously, a lot of tarmac and tidal pool notes, spicy, a little bit of sweet malt, but overall dry. I will gladly finish this bottle but I might not buy another.
