George Dickel 11 Year Bottled in Bond Tennessee Whisky (Fall 2008)
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed August 29, 2020 (edited September 18, 2020)Actually the 2009 batch. Nose of caramel, vanilla, oak, leather, hint of nutmeg, and maybe some smoke. Can take a deep inhale. Full bodied, comes in with a burst of heat that dissipates quickly. Caramel, vanilla, nutmeg, maybe some dried cherry. Finishes smooth with some lingering sweetness and spice. -
Peerless Kentucky Straight Rye (24 Months)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 29, 2020 (edited October 7, 2020)Arizona Whiskey Community barrel pick. Brown sugar, vanilla, spice, hint of smoke and oak in the aroma with some substantial alcohol heat. Nice mouthfeel, flavors match the aroma, pretty hot though. Overall a really excellent rye. -
Stagg Jr Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch 12
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 5, 2020 (edited December 13, 2020)Such a wonderful bourbon. Yeah it is a little hot but holy cow is it worth it. Behind that heat is such a richness of deep flavors. Brown sugar pushing toward molasses, vanilla, smooth oak, some lingering spice with a hint of leather. I fall in love with this one again with every pour. -
Michter's US*1 Sour Mash Whiskey
Other Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 19, 2020 (edited April 18, 2020)Aroma is pepper and honey with a hint of vanilla oaky-ness. Flavor is slightly sweet, some oak and spice, maybe some mild cereal (corn?) notes. There is a slightly fruity high note in the finish (maybe apricot?). Body is a little thin and finish is dry. Some alcohol warming but definitely on the lighter side compared to what I am used to. A nice bourbon but on the mild side overall. -
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 18, 2020 (edited April 18, 2020)Batch C918. It's hot, but under that is rich brown sugar, vanilla, and a hint of caramel in the nose. The flavor matches although I don't get the caramel as much and there is maybe a hint of pepper in the upper palate mixed in with the alcohol heat that lingers there. It is a wonderful bourbon. -
