Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 15, 2015 (edited November 10, 2017)You simply CANNOT beat this bourbon for the price point. || Had more over the weekend. It's been a while. This is still at the top of my list for bourbons under $50 -
Highland Park 18 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed December 7, 2015 (edited February 13, 2018)Tasted this in a Cigar bar under Mike's Pastry in Boston. It deserves the 99 rating. H.P. 12 is ok, but this is fantastic! I love Peated whiskies, while this is not heavily peated it has a nice smokey flavor that complements perfectly. Nice changeup. -
Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 7, 2015 (edited November 10, 2017)This is the best of the commonly available Four Roses offerings. The Single barrel bottling is prettier, but this bourbon is better. Smoother & a better balance of flavors. This is what I use for my Old Fashioneds. -
Yellowstone Kentucky Straight Bourbon 7 Year (2015 Limited Edition)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 7, 2015 (edited February 11, 2016)Better than expected. I only picked this up because there were only 6,000 bottles produced (so I bought 3). I'd read some bad and not so bad reviews so I wasn't expecting much. Pleasanty surprised. You can definitely taste the heavy Rye influence. Although I can still taste the vanilla & burnt sugar. -
Jack Daniel's Unaged Tennessee Rye
White — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed December 4, 2015 (edited January 7, 2021)It's interesting to have in my collection as a conversation piece. I personally don't care for it. This is very strange, I have no experience with any other unaged rye. This is like Brewers yeast. Takes me back to the still house at Lynchburg. I have yet to find a redeeming flavor anywhere in this bottle, and I'm done searching. Unfortunately, I bought two bottles because I thought it was going to be limited & hard to fine. So naive I was. -
Van Winkle Special Reserve Lot "B" 12 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 4, 2015 (edited April 24, 2018)Picked this up for about $60. I was on a waiting list for 3 years and this was the best available bottle when my name came up. It's good. Not Great. W.L. Weller 12 is comparable. I've tasted the Pappy 15 and it's fantastic. (I personally would rate the 15 year higher than 89) I'm still on a list for a bottle of that. -
Jack Daniel's Master Distiller Series No. 1
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed December 4, 2015 (edited April 13, 2021)Quite possibly the best Jack Daniels I have ever tasted. Unfortunately, it's been a while since I've had a glass but I remember it being much smoother than the Old No. 7. It's appropriate that Jack himself is honored with this bottling. My Favorite Jack. Glad I still have 2 unopened bottles. I bought my first bottle of this alongside a bottle of Sinatra Select. Maybe that's why I don't like the Sinatra Select. -
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 4, 2015 (edited February 13, 2018)The 6th release at 140.2 is fantastic. Heavily oaked, vanilla, caramel. Release 10 (138.8) is oily, sugary, oaky, full of caramel candy & vanilla. It is equally fantastic. I let several non-bourbon friends taste it neat and were shocked to find out it was 138.8 proof. So smooth. (Recently added 136 & 139.4 to my collection) Consistently the best high proof bourbons. Not a fan of the new style bottles & the juice inside. They taste thin and lack character.
