Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 11, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)After first taste, I wasn't that impressed. It's definitely good quality whiskey but it really just tastes like an upgraded wild turkey. I need to taste it again. 2nd tasting... still doesn't do it for me. It's Wild Turkey with a fancier label and slightly smoother finish. -
Booker's Bourbon Batch 2015-02 "Dot's Batch"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 11, 2016 (edited January 27, 2020)Think 2015-1 but oily. I mean REALLY oily! This has become my new favorite of the 2015 releases. -
Angel's Envy Cask Strength Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 11, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)I've tasted the 2014 release. First pour from a fresh bottle. I get mushrooms to the hilt! It's overpowering. Glad I tasted from someone else's bottle. -
Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year Bourbon (107 Proof)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 11, 2016 (edited January 30, 2018)Sweet brown sugar goodness. -
Booker's Bourbon Batch 2015-04 "Oven Buster Batch"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 11, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)So, I've had this with a steak dinner, then on it's own, and then in a lineup with the first 4 Bookers releases of 2015. It was FANTASTIC with dinner, average on it's own and dry like chalk when compared to the other releases in the line. No kidding, if you like chalk with your oak & burnt sugar then this is the bourbon for you. It's great as a summer bourbon over ice. -
Eagle Rare 17 Year Bourbon (Fall 2015)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 24, 2016 (edited October 15, 2018)Finally opened this last night. Better than I imagined. It's similar to the 10, but the oak is much stronger on this one. I love it. Unfortunately, the oxygen did this nectar no favors as I drank through the bottle. -
Definitely more spicy than sweet. I can appreciate it, but it's not a favorite. I like more oak and it doesn't really shine. 2nd Tasting: I'm getting the sweetness now. It's a dark sweetness with some woodiness and dried fruits. I think I kinda love it. Glad I'm able to taste from a friends bottle & still keep my sealed. Still can't believe my note is the lone wolf on here. Has nobody else really tasted it? I'm saying goodbye to my bottle. Found a trade I couldn't pass up. I'm getting a George T. Stagg 2013!!!
