Pappy Van Winkle 15 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 22, 2016 (edited November 10, 2017)Best Bourbon I've ever had the pleasure to taste. I love the sweetness and the strong oak flavors. -
Michter's 10 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 22, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)2017 Bottle: I was given a sample before I opened my bottles and I am very thankful for that. Tastes like Old Forester 1920 and Jack Daniels. It's disgusting. I quickly sold off my unopened bottles. 2015 Bottle: The medicinal character of this one is too overpowering for me. Can't really get past that one wall to taste the other flavors. I feel the complexity but can't grasp the flavors. -
Angel's Envy Rye Finished in Caribbean Rum Casks
Rye — USA
Reviewed January 22, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Not something I want to drink everyday but I like the sweetness in this. It's like a snicker doodle cookie. Very tasty. Would probably be great with a cinnamon roll. -
Elijah Craig 18 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 22, 2016 (edited February 29, 2016)Good bourbon, just wish I could say "great". Flavors are completely different from the Elijah Craig 12 yr. Over Priced. It would be a GREAT bourbon for $50. Maybe an earlier release was better. -
Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 2, 2016 (edited March 24, 2016)I get mushrooms in this one. Does anyone else get mushrooms? It's really strong in the cask strength version. -
Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 29, 2015 (edited January 22, 2018)The batch from 2014 at 129 proof tastes like Eagle Rare 10 at a high proof. My first thought when I was nosing the 2014 was "Eagle Rare!!". I wasn't exactly excited about that. The batch from 2015 at 127.2 proof tastes like Eagle Rare 17 at a high proof, with more oak. For my personal preference, the 2015 batch is far superior. [2nd tasting of the 129 proof last night. It has opened up. It's now tasting very similar to the 127.2; still similar to Eagle Rare 10 on the nose, but the flavors coming through now are without that metallic character] Not enough consistency from batch to batch. I tasted the 127.5 and it was awful -
WhistlePig The Boss Hog Straight Rye Whiskey
Rye — (Bottled In) Vermont, Canada
Reviewed December 21, 2015 -
15-87 || Hot. Spice; think allspice. Orange peel. Dried apricot & other dark fruits. Creamy & full. LOOOONG finish. Add a little water at a time if needed. Not too much or you lose quite a bit of nuance. It's quite fantastic. I salivate when I think about this bourbon. My current favorite. Can't stay away from it.

Lagavulin 12 Year (2012 Special Release)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed December 15, 2015 (edited May 4, 2020)I like cask strength bourbons (Stagg, Craig, Bookers) and I like cask strength scotch (Uigeadail, A'bunadh) ... but, this doesn't work quite as well for me. Some of the smokeyness & smoothness I love in the 16 is lost in this expression. (I've now had more from this bottle and my impression has improved since my first tasting but I still won't be replacing this bottle when it's gone.) -
Aberlour A'bunadh
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 15, 2015 (edited February 4, 2019)This is my Christmas scotch. Also considered, the honey of my whisky collection. Outside of Lagavulin 16 this has to be one of my most favorite scotch whiskies I own.
