Michter's 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon (2021 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA

Nose-brown sugar and maple syrup Body- rich maple syrup continues with a hint of root beer. There is a hint of orange marmalade. Finish- thin and fairly remarkable, maple syrup gives way to a peppery bite Had in the Newark Airport on the way to Iceland. This wasn’t amazing but it isn’t bad either. This is one of the better new distilleries that I have had.

Nose- pervasive peat with smoke, bark, and black pepper Body- the usual rich honey body is there but the peat is pervasive and not as well balanced as I would like, I mostly get char with a hint of orange and honey Finish- smoke, honey, orange and quite a bit of char that gives off a bitter note like burnt toast Well, I have found a Balvenie that I don’t really like. Who would have thought? The usual Balvenie depth just isn’t there. The peat does not enhance, it smothers here.

Balvenie The Sweet Toast of American Oak 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed January 1, 2021 (edited March 9, 2023)Nose- Honey and blackberry jam Body-Juicy blackberry sweetness up front, orange marmalade with molasses become pervasive. Finish- Orange marmalade continues but becomes a bit more tart and reminds me of blood orange. This then gives way to a buttery corn on the cob finish. Then the blood Orange continues to round out the drink. The late finish reminds me of a blood orange hazy IPA. Note: This one was sweeter than I had anticipated. I like it a lot but I could only drink so much due to the sweetness. -

Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 31, 2020 (edited September 16, 2020)Nose- Brown sugar and baking spices Body- Very nice body with brown sugar, a bit of cinnamon, leather and a tanic mouthfeel that is reminiscent of sweet tea. Finish- Sweet richness gives rise to a peppery, oily finish. (This is a signature of WT for me).
