W.B. Saffell Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 29, 2020 (edited November 3, 2020)Nose- Bit me a little here. More hot then I would have thought from 107 proof point. Rich honey is most pervasive. Body- Smooth and easy to drink. The heat in the nose is not present here. This is an earthy rich body with notes of honey, maple syrup, leather, walnut, and french toast (in that order for me). Finish- Fairly long finish with leather and honey. This one really sticks with you and coats the tongue. This is a very nice addition to the Barons of Bourbon collection. It has a rich depth and lingering finish that sets it apart. -
Bardstown Bourbon Co. Château de Laubade Armagnac Finish
Bourbon — Indiana (bottled in Kentucky), USA
Reviewed August 26, 2020 (edited January 19, 2021)Nose- vanilla, cherry, cloves, and a bit of astringency Body- Sweet up front with notes of cherry, blackberry, fruit punch, vanilla, and clove. There are some similarities with The Prisoner but this Bardstown rendition is brighter, less jam and less tanic. Finish- Medium finish with hints of dark chocolate and almond. There are notes there that remind me of an unpeated scotch. This is very nice. While the Prisoner is still my favorite Bardstown production, this has more depth and interest. -
Very Olde St. Nick 12 Year Antique Barrel Kentucky Bourbon (Lot 2)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 22, 2020 (edited September 16, 2020)Nose- lots of vanilla Body- sweet vanilla l, powdered sugar with orange up front that then gives way to green apple Finish- green apple continues into some wood tannin notes This is an interesting take on green apple with a vanilla partnership rather than the caramel partnership I have had with EHT, Rock Hill Farms, etc. -
Very Olde St. Nick 17 Year Lost Barrel Bourbon Whiskey
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed August 22, 2020 (edited September 16, 2020)Nose- cherry comes through strongly and blends with molasses notes to give away pervasive cherry Pepsi notes (love it!) Body- nicely sweet upfront t and then gives way to a tart cherry and then finishes with a dark chocolate malt Finish- Bitter sourness gives way to woody tannins that are reminiscent of sassafras. This finish stays with you. It is one of the richest bourbons I have had and truly an experience which is in line with the darkness of the bourbon. This is like a rich desert bourbon that is definitely for sipping. Thanks for sharing Milliardo. -
Pappy Van Winkle 15 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 21, 2020 (edited September 16, 2020)Nose- vanilla, a little lemon Body- sweet, black cherry and vanilla with less wood notes with more sweetness of the Finish- light, coconut and cherry I like this better than the 20. Sweeter with less lemon zest. -
Pappy Van Winkle 20 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 21, 2020 (edited November 25, 2020)Nose- lots of brown sugar and vanilla Body- lots of vanilla, black cherry, and a little lemon zest rich in tannins but light in taste Finish- the vanillins give way to cherry, coconut, and a little grass Love the nose but I have to be honest, it isn’t what I thought it would be. I liked it more and more with each sip, but it was not as rich as I thought it would be. -
Nose- Brown sugar and maple syrup strongly present. Body- The brown sugar and maple syrup continue but there is a strong sour note as well leaving the flavor of sweet tea with lemon. There is also a hint of leather. This is a very smooth sipper that is both full flavored but light in its finish. Finish- Remarkably smooth with a bit of brown sugar, black pepper, leather and tobacco. A little light in the tongue however.

Bardstown Bourbon Co. The Prisoner Wine Co. Finish
Bourbon — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed June 4, 2020 (edited June 26, 2021)Nose- The 100 proof point comes through with some heat but there is also vanilla and interestingly cloves. Body- Cherry and thick tongue coating tannins, this is a bourbon for wine drinkers. Very rich but tastes lower in proof than it is. Finish- The cherry and berry notes fall away to a rich vanilla and clove. This is a fantastic bourbon! I have heard good things of Bardstown and this one has definitely piqued my interest in the distillery. In fact I bought several of these as it is a one and done bottling from my understanding. A great bourbon when you want something rich with heavy fruit notes. -
Boone County Eighteen 33 10 Year Sauternes Barrel Select
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed April 3, 2020 (edited December 21, 2020)Nose- Vanilla, a bit of cherry, and pineapple Body- Is that cherry coke? There are also notes of raisin, blackberry and red licorice. The sweet wine finish is certainly present throughout but not cloyingly so. This is a wonderfully easy sipper. There is zero backburn. None. Finish- This is weird. I’m really not sure what I am tasting. The Sauternes comes through more here and is a little bit two white wine, juicy fruity. The pineapple comes through here that I had a hint of in the nose. This is the only shortcoming for me and it is a minor one for me. This is fantastic! Slainte Milliardo! Note- Truly unlike anything that I have had before. I really want a bottle now. Sad considering how few there are. -
