Willett Family Estate Small Batch Rye 4 Year
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 25, 2014 (edited April 24, 2018)Nose- spicy cinnamon but with the sweetness of brown sugar Body- slightly briny with a peppery orange and cinnamon flavor that reminds of Christmas punch, hot but very smooth Finish- medium-long spicy finish with notes of orange and cinnamon giving way to black pepper and mint Notes- this is the best rye that I have had to date. It has a rich spiciness but is very easy to drink, especially for its high proof. -
Nose- black pepper, brown sugar and caramel Body- sweet caramel mixed with strong mint, black pepper, lemon and oak char, rye spice really shines later Finish- long with black pepper sugar and a hint of mint. Note- This is very good and smooth to drink. I think this is my second favorite rye to Whistlepig 100-100.40.0 USD per Bottle

Nose- smoky with a medicinal hint, almost like formaldehyde Body- briny and oily like salt water, there are fruit notes but they seem buried under a chemical smoke like burning tar Finish- very long with cigar tar This is not the flavor profile that I care for in a Scotch. This was an important learning experience at the Cowbell. -Recently edited to reflect my changing tastes and comfort with peaty scotches.
