Singleton of Glendullan The Silken Gown (2023 Special Release)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 13, 2024Nose has citrus vanilla and spices. Top of the nose almost reminds me of a candied spiced orange peel. Definitely a unique smell as the spice is much more prevalent than in other scotches. Pallet has more citrus fruits and apricot. Almost a cinnamony back end. Very rich and full. Mouth feel is almost decadent. It's velvety and smooth and at the same time almost a little slick. Overall this one is really a treat. I wasn't expecting much, but this jam really delivered. A great bottle for when you're looking for something a little bit away from the ordinary and a little richer than normal. -
Nose: candied fruit, reminiscent of the sugared grapes from Japan. Vanilla undertones, orange peel. Palate: there's definitely vanilla and fruit there, but it opens with an almost chocolatey sweetness. Almond brittle and sweet grapes. Mouthfeel: silky smooth, rich and full. Overall: delicious. Perfect for an after dinner dram. A drop of water brought out the candied orange peel in the nose and more vanilla in the pallet. This is going on the to- buy list.

Bunnahabhain 18 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed December 2, 2024 (edited December 10, 2024)Nose: raisins, currants, figs, dark toffee and a slight hint of iodine. Palate: caramel, more raisins and a touch of brine. Molasses and dark stone fruit. finish is long and very sherry. Mouth feel: chewy, a touch astringent. It works though, because it cuts the sweetness which could be cloying otherwise. Overall: for an allay, there's almost no smoke or peat. But it's a very nice dram with enough complexity to remain interesting throughout. One I would enjoy having in my cupboard. -
