If the kingdom of whisky had a gatekeeper this would be the bottle for the job. This for a lot of people is the beginning of their whisky journey. Flavors that anyone can grab ahold of and enjoy. Dried fruit, caramel, vanilla and a little bit of spice. Macallan 12 is great for parties, small get together or just sitting on the couch binge-watching your favorite show.

The smoothest whisky you will ever drink. If you are having a fancy party this is the bottle you serve. Even new whisky drinkers could probably handle this one with ease. However if you are an experienced whisky drinker there are certainly better and more complex bottles out there in the price range.

If you want to know what peat tastes like this is the bottle for you. It lacked complexity that it’s competitors seam to find a bit more of but it is a good glass to end the night on.

Now when it comes to picking the best whisky it’s hard to say because there is plenty of 50 plus year olds that no one will ever try and it’s subjective. So in the obtainable range of whisky this might be the one. If there was a contest to find out this would be the bottle I would submit. Take the 16 year old Lagavulin and add some dessert. It’s wonderful wonderful wonderful.

If you have ever told yourself that you wish you could find a whisky that combines coffee creamer with ash from a fire then you are in luck. This bottle really does have a creaminess element to it underneath all the peat smoke. Don’t get me wrong this is not a sweet whisky by any means. If you want an Islay scotch that does not taste like a band aid or one that tastes like leather then this is the bottle for you. It fits right in the middle flavor profile of all the Islays distilleries. If you like trying lots of new things this one should be on your list.

You know that star athlete that was always over shadowed by another player but you swear he is better? Well that’s how I feel about the Platinum compared to the Blue Label. This is more complex than the Blue. If you switched the price tag on the two I would not complain at all.
