Nose: smoky bacon, honey, apple, butter Taste: smoke, some medicinal but not terrible - maybe I’m just a novice with the smoke but it’s overpowering anything else so I’m not finding notable sweetness Finish: smoke, dry After reading review: I was so focused on the smoke, I overlooked the salt/brine - it’s there throughout. Can’t find any of the vanilla sweetness referenced though.

Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2009
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 6, 2019 (edited March 27, 2019)Nose: apple, wheat bread, perfume, hay Taste: candy sweetness at the front that quickly fades into smokiness, also something sour or earthy maybe Finish: hot, smoke doesn’t linger, dry After reading reviews: i didn’t get a lot of the fruity sweetness on the nose seen in reviews (pineapple, mango, peach) but perhaps picking up some pineapple on the finish when breathing out, lots of references to cereal which may overlap with my wheat bread note -
Nose: honey, pear, sherry? Taste: candy sweetness on the tongue, honey, malt, very nice smokiness without any medicinal notes Finish: sweetness and smoke, eventually a saltiness After reading reviews: surprised to find it’s not sherry casked, amazing the smoke is achieved with minimal peat, whizzky review mentions sweet bourbon on the nose - I get that
-
Nose: caramel but something dulling the sweetness, maybe a rye or tobacco Taste: almost a sourness, strong alcohol, maybe pickle - is this high rye? Finish: whatever this note I’m identifying as rye is lingering, alcohol burn After reading review: the pipe tobacco and alcohol burn were prominent for me, couldn’t get past them to find more. It’s just not sweet in the way that I think of bourbon sweetness.
-
Nose: rye, cinnamon, vanilla, cherry, floral/lavender? Taste: cherry, the rye mellows the sweetness Finish: rye comes through at the end, proof is nice - warmth lingers more than taste After reading review: this was the first floral note I’ve gotten from a bourbon so I was excited to see the distiller review corroborate that. Lots of reviews note wood and oak, but I didn’t get that - maybe I’m attributing the spiciness to the rye versus that. Same for the pepper note in whizzky.20.0 USD per Bottle

Nose: Apple, apricot Taste: scotch-like sweetness (sherry finish?), lemon Finish: long, more alcohol burn than the 12, dry. Overall, reminded me of Glenmorangie. After reading review: i got the lemon on the taste instead of the nose, the toast is there after smelling the glass. Got the sherry finish and higher abv.
