Old Forester Single Barrel Bourbon 90 Proof
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 16, 2020 (edited July 2, 2020)I have a couple bottles and while they focus on an overly sweet profile most of the time they have very little flaws. This bottle is from Mickey Finns in Florence South Carolina. It was $35 which I found to be a great value. Very sweet start from this one and then it turns into liquid form of twizzlers. Intense cherry twizzler flavor followed by some vanilla cream and then a nice sweet oak. It’s a simple straightforward dram that although is not complex it has good flavor and not flawed in any way. I’m looking forward to the new 100 proof single barrel in May from Old Fo!35.0 USD per Bottle -
Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 19, 2020 (edited April 5, 2020)Yeah I agree with the average score given. Not super complex or rich in flavor but it is flawless in execution of what it is. I get Apple Jacks and Vanilla wafers on the nose. It’s warm and very inviting. Palate is baked apples with heaps of cinnamon over the top. Finish is a little peach cobbler, apple crisp and a brief touch of cedar. It’s very enjoyable and agreeable with most palates I suspect. -
Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 3, 2020 (edited December 29, 2020)Simple nose of cinnamon, orange zest, and leather. But complex palate of Carmel, Vanilla, Spearmint, citrus zest, sweet oak spice, barrel char, tobacco and vanilla icing with cherry pie filling coming in and out. Really enjoy the sweet tobacco tones in the finish. It’s spicy and prickly and although there are Wild Turkey products that are more nuanced and yet balanced. I enjoy this bold and unrefined feel of this whiskey as it brings some unique flavors to the mix. It’s a bit of a thinker but I have enjoyed the ride. -
Enjoy this one more than the previous small batch. I think it’s a little sweeter and it hides its alcohol better with more cinnamon spice. I get a vanilla with a little beam funk that I often enjoy in Bookers. Barrel Char flavor is present but not as dominant as it often times is in a Knob Creek Single barrel.

Dry Fly Cask Strength Straight Wheat Whiskey
Wheat Whiskey — Washington, USA
Reviewed January 12, 2020I tried to give this some time to come around. No substitute for time in the barrell. It’s hot, sweet, and 1 note and that note is youthfulness. I think it’s a good distillate but just not ready. -
Old Fitzgerald Bottled in Bond 9 Year (Fall 2018)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 12, 2020 (edited September 2, 2020)The first several pours were really excellent after allowing it a little time to open up. Has a rare coconut note for me that make it feel special. Palate also has a little hay, golden raisin and a ton of vanilla. Excellent mouthfeel! -
I was dissatisfied at first with this one and tried several small neck pours. It felt tight and gave some awesome spice but I couldn’t pull much for a palate. After giving it some time.... it’s fantastic! Chocolate covered cherries and caramel sundae on the nose. Palate is quintessential with caramel and vanilla leading the way. Some spearmint, pepper and cinnamon spike before the finish shows off some vanilla, chocolate and barrel char. I’m sucker for Four Roses but this one is hard to beat for my palate.

New Riff Kentucky Straight Bourbon Bottled In Bond
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 8, 2019It’s nose is all vanilla and worn out leather. The palate shows off rye spice and pepper to go with the vanilla. The finish lingers and starts off with Caramel and toffee, then baking spices take over and hang out. Pretty enjoyable sip! -
1792 Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 25, 2019 (edited January 11, 2020)The nose is sweet corn and vanilla. The flavor is dark with a heavy dose of Carmel followed by brown sugar, sorghum, molasses, and leads into a finish of deep char. Finish is very strong and filled with barrel char. If you enjoy barrel char than this is for you. It’s not overly spicy and although I get banana from Barton on many bourbons I don’t with this pour. -
Nose is filled with hints of sweet raisins and cherries. Lemon zest is faint in the background. Palate is salty caramel with a huge wave of vanilla spice. Spice is dominant. Finish is medium length and flashes some leather, sweet cream and cherry coke, then more leather. Mouthfeel is excellent. Need to be open minded with this one as it’s unique and inviting. The spice is upfront but transitions to lovely but medium length finish. Great new blended bourbon that I would gladly purchase again.
