Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey (Discontinued)
American Single Malt — Colorado, USA
Reviewed April 20, 2020I really enjoy Stranahan's. It's rich, the velvety oiliness coats the mouth with some mild cinnamon, nutmeg and maltiness. It does have a nice bite on the front of the tongue at first and finishes sweet, buttery and short. -
I find the ratings very low and somewhat incorrect..Spicy!!? I am a bourbon and scotch drinker and this XO is by far everything lovely in a sherried scotch and the refined sweetness of a great bourbon. This bottle was fabulous. No smoke , hardly any ethenol burn..all sweet plums with a little berry bite and raisins with smooth oak finish. Wow, just wow.

At 46%abv and 25.00US it's not bad, but it's not great. It has an old funk about it. Not spoiled or rotten. Ever had a box of old sunmaid raisins? That's what I'm getting on the nose and the palette is the same with a bitter finish. Perhaps they used some worn out cask that are imparting this strong flavor.

solid Sherry finished scotch. Nose: sweet, candied nuts, sweet dried fruit mostly dates for me. Taste: sweet on the front with Sherry dark fruit, some vanilla and grass. ends with just a bit of ginger spice and goes away fast. easy to drink. I love Balvenie DW, but for 1/2 the price this would be a easy alternaive.

at first approach I was blown away. this is my first Islay Peated Scotch. All I got was deep smoke like if I threw a wet rag into my pit smoker for 3 hours and took a whiff. first glass was all iodine, brine and that same smoke. Like sipping dripping from a fire pit. I left alone for a week came back. this time it was a sweeter, more fruit notes coming thru but still harsh smoke and peat. Then I started mixing into cocktails, the Penicillin is a good one to approach this hell fire Peaty Scotch
