Peat, brine and sea salt with iodine and some vanilla sweetness behind it from the bourbon cask finish. Quite refreshing. The peat and wood smoke notes develop and linger during a long finish. Quality is definitely up there with Ardbeg and Lagavulin, although given the prices are similar, I would personally reach for a bottle of Uigeadail or Laga 16 over this for a touch more complexity in the flavours - this whisky does not offer the tobacco and leather notes within the Laga 16, nor the level of sweetness that offsets the peat within the Uigeadail. For me, if this bottle was 10% cheaper, it would be a much more compelling proposition.

A smooth and well balanced whisky with notes of smoke, leather and shoe polish. A perfect dram, 5 stars

Spicy apple with caramel and a hint of peat

A very smooth and well-balanced Islay, not too much peat and smoke, allowing for the red fruit and citrus to come to the fore, then slight brine. My bottle was the 2001 edition, bottles 2017

A full, rich, heavily peated whisky with citrus notes, shoe polish and brine. It tastes relatively young and ‘hot’ however a little water brings out the flavours. I prefer to let it sit for a few minutes, and I find the whisky improves the further through the bottle you get
