Loch Lomond Inchmurrin 18 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed June 10, 2018 (edited February 21, 2021)Great whisky, with aromas of gentle peat, brine and delicate sweetness (more Bruichladdich than Lagavulin). There's cantaloupe on the palate with bitter cacao nibs towards the end, maybe some black tea too. Full-bodied and oily with a prolonged finish. -
Glencadam 15 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed June 10, 2018 (edited February 18, 2022)A serviceable whisky with a wonderful nose that takes a nosedive at the palate and finish. Apple and carnation with a touch of butterscotch and a generous dose of honey. The predominant aroma is fruit. The body is light and fragile with a lingering bitter finish. -
Great whisky, but it doesn't measure up to the nearly perfect Green Label. The nose has hints of tropical fruit and is lightly peated. Palate has a touch of spice, with brine and sweetness on the finish - think delicious square salted caramel candy. The body is medium-bodied, and the finish is loooooooong. Very long. It's good stuff.

Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 2
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed June 7, 2018 (edited December 6, 2020)Sweet, sweet saviour... Apple and sherry (raisin) on the nose, with wafts of summer air and honey. The palate is full and silky, with baking spices, oak and brown sugar blended together. The finish is sherried with a touch of dark chocolate. I'm not saying this bottle is worth $750 CAD, but I am saying I'm crazy enough to fork that kind of money for this bottle. Mindblowing! -
Balvenie Single Barrel Sherry Cask 15 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed June 7, 2018 (edited June 14, 2018)I don't know... Some apricot to the nose with a touch of sulfur and flowers. The palate is anaesthesizing, with spices towards the back of the tongue - ain't no sherry happening here. The finish is fairly long, but not in the most pleasant of ways. Really not my thing. -
Jura Tastival 2017
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed June 1, 2018 (edited September 16, 2022)Delicious and complex, though also unusual. Takes a few minutes for the nose to open, but when it does, it's wonderful. There's the port influence, some walnut, some fruity undertones... Great stuff. The palate has additional hints of peach and oak, with a slightly syrupy texture. It all works together, though I admit I'm not used to so much nuttiness in a single malt. Worth trying! -
Royal Lochnagar 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed June 1, 2018 (edited June 2, 2018)Pleasant and fruity, but a complete ripoff at $130 CAD - pretty sure they had elevated levels of alcohol in their bloodstream when they decided this price point. Nose and palate have notes of apple (with prominently) and honeycomb. The body and finish are disgracefully flat and short, with floral notes towards the end. Taste but do not buy at that price. -
Springbank Green 13 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown , Scotland
Reviewed May 25, 2018 (edited January 4, 2020)Some honey, grated lemon peel, fruit cake, a touch of oak and smoke. Very similar to the Kilkerran 12 though sherried and slightly more peated. It's outstanding!120.0 USD per Bottle -
Balvenie Peated Triple Cask 14 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed May 25, 2018 (edited May 26, 2018)Delicious and great value. Honey, melon and peat on the nose with floral hints. Palate is predominantly lemon and wood spices, with an oily texture to the mouth. @PBMichiganWolverine and @Camardicus are also spot on with a peculiar yet pleasant note: mushrooms. The finish is a little harsh, with a lingering baking spice ending.
