Cragganmore (2016 Special Release)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed May 11, 2018 (edited September 16, 2022)Very good whisky. Notes of green apples and honey to the nose, with a peppery palate. Body is oily and water really opens this expression up. Great stuff! -
Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Brora
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed May 10, 2018 (edited August 25, 2018)GREAT whisky, but I don't think anyone would 5 star this on a blind taste. There's true craftsmanship on the blend, as all of the notes work in harmony, but I think they sacrificed texture for the sake of flavour. There's no body - it's incredibly fragile, and while the finish lingers, it also lacks depth. Still fantastic even though the price is fantastical. Touch of tropics on the nose, with a predominance of ginger and pear. Palate has hints of smoke and subtle spice, with a pleasant amount of heat on the tongue. -
Cardhu Special Cask Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed May 9, 2018 (edited May 11, 2018)Review for batch number c s/c r 13.15 Wonderful color, and the maturity is obvious. Sherry on the nose with vanilla. Palate has notes of fruit cake and honey, some almond. Oily and enveloping on the tongue, with a fairly long finish. Very good. -
Cragganmore 25 Year (2014 Special Release)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed May 9, 2018 (edited January 7, 2021)Enjoyed this expression, but came away disappointed - it may have spent too much time in cask, so that oak and wood spices overpower the other more subtle aromas. Heather and cinnamon on the nose, melon on the palate with strong oak and wood spices. Honey tries to make an appearance and barely succeeds. Body is surprisingly light and the finish is neither short nor lingers. -
Glen Moray Elgin Classic Chardonnay Cask Finish
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed May 8, 2018 (edited December 16, 2018)A weak 4, and I couldn't bear the thought of giving it a 3. It's nothing to shout home about, but I liked it. The nose evokes thoughts of tea leaves with a touch of apples and baking spices. The palate is nutty, with a strange deliciousness for which the Chardonnay cask is probably responsible for. The finish is short but refreshingly crisp. It's different in a good way. -
Glenmorangie The Cadboll
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed May 8, 2018 (edited December 24, 2018)Great travel retail exclusive, and I recommend trying. Aromas of honey and cooked dates. It's sweet to the palate, with almond paste, ginger and wood spice on the finish. Thoroughly enjoyed it. -
Glenlivet The Master Distiller's Reserve Small Batch
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed May 8, 2018Feels like Glenlivet wasn't in the mood to take risks with this one. There's nothing wrong with this expression, but there's also nothing right with it. It's... generic. Nose is sherry, and there's honey and oak on the palate. Body is decent, and so's the finish. It's ok. -
Aberlour 18 Year Double Cask Matured
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed May 8, 2018 (edited December 13, 2021)Where have you been all my life? Great whisky coming out of Aberlour. The bourbon influence is dominant, but the oloroso presence is also here: fruit cake, toasted barley, nutmeg and caramel. The finish... wow, long and lingering. Delicious stuff. -
Loch Lomond Inchmoan 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed May 8, 2018 (edited September 5, 2020)I very much enjoyed this whisky. Nice touch of citrus, with peat and seaweed for good measure. There's some caramel on the palate, and a very faint nuttiness towards the finish.
