Elijah Craig 18 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 20, 2020 (edited September 21, 2020)Chocolate and cherry nose. Kinda musty. Somewhat of a lead paint taste. Probably something you get with old whiskey. Not gonna seek this out but it was great to try. I use the rating scale below. Distiller uses a scale of 5 and I use a scale of 10, but I’m sure you’re not too drunk to do the math! 1. Disgusting - So bad I poured it out. 2. Poor - I wouldn't consume by choice. 3. Bad - Multiple flaws. 4. Below average - Not bad, but many things I'd rather have. 5. Good - Just average. 6. Very Good - Better than average. 7. Great - Well above average. 8. Excellent - In a league of its own. 9. Incredible - An all-time favorite. 10. Perfect -
Starting this off by saying I don’t like rye that much. That being said, this is one of the lore enjoyable ones I’ve tried. Nose is lighter spices nothing overpowering but pleasant. Palate is very smooth and doesn’t come across like limit ryes. Must be due to the sweet corn they use. Round and complex and good for a young rye. I use the rating scale below. Distiller uses a scale of 5 and I use a scale of 10, but I’m sure you’re not too drunk to do the math! 1. Disgusting - So bad I poured it out. 2. Poor - I wouldn't consume by choice. 3. Reviewed August 19, 2020 (edited September 21, 2020)Yum. Nose is predominantly cherry. Maple syrup and caramel in background. Palate is more cherry. Freshly cracked. I’ll come back and revise after the bottle settles. Nose is nearly indistinguishable from OWA. Green apple. Brown sugar and maple syrup. Caramel. Very classic nose with the green apple Buffalo Trace signature. OWA is in my top 3 so this is a good start. Palate is pleasant. More of a low key version of OWA given the proof. Round mouthfeel. Hints of chocolate but mainly caramel and maple syrup. Damn good. Finish is medium, slightly lacking but not bad. I like higher proof so currently giving the edge to OWA but this is damn good. Got it for $33 retail, but it’s 2x the cost of OWA on secondary. Glad I like OWA more. I use the rating scale below. Distiller uses a scale of 5 and I use a scale of 10, but I’m sure you’re not too drunk to do the math! 1. Disgusting - So bad I poured it out. 2. Poor - I wouldn't consume by choice. 3. Weller Antique 107 Single Barrel

Reviewed August 4, 2020 (edited September 26, 2020)I have a Twin Liquors pick. Nose really the main difference between this and the non-SP. I still get the apples and caramel and classic notes of the OWA but there’s a hint of orange or some other smooth fruit overlaid. My friend calls this bottle the orange dreamsicle bottle. I’m a huge fan of OWA and this is excellent. I use the rating scale below. Distiller uses a scale of 5 and I use a scale of 10, but I’m sure you’re not too drunk to do the math! 1. Smoke Wagon Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana (bottled in Nevada), USA
Reviewed August 4, 2020 (edited December 11, 2020)When first opening the bottle all I got marshmallows and cotton candy and it was odd. Over time that’s mellowed and the nose, while still containing a marshmallow, is spices and caramel. Mouthfeel is a bit thin. Cinnamon and cherry coming through on palate with familiar MGP tastes. Shorter finish with some heat on the outside of the tongue. I use the rating scale below. Distiller uses a scale of 5 and I use a scale of 10, but I’m sure you’re not too drunk to do the math! 1.
