Kirk and Sweeney 23 Year Rum
Aged Rum — Dominican Republic
Reviewed July 7, 2021 (edited September 22, 2021)Firstly, as far as I can gather, the 23 year old expression has been discontinued, the new, non-age stated rum is the Gran Reserva Superior. In the glass, the smell reminds me of making cookies, creaming butter and brown sugar in a mixing bowl. 18/20 The first sip is warm and inviting, brown sugar, butterscotch, toasted vanilla. Some fruit is present, but subtle. 26/30 The finish is long enough to be interesting, but still relatively short. Additional sips show increasing depth of flavor, there’s plenty to dig into here. 20/25 The bottle is beautiful, the cork is sealed with a gold tape bearing the location where the Kirk and Sweeney was taken by the coastguard, and the neck tag supposed to invoke a coastguard impound tag. Most of the cork is in the neck of the bottle, leaving just a tiny, surprisingly spongy, bit to grab, making opening the bottle tricky. 16/20 Subjectively, I don’t like the cork, or the neck tag, but love the rest of it. It’s pricey, but probably justifiably. I’m giving 4/5 here for a grand total of 84/100.54.95 USD per Bottle -
Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 17, 2021 (edited August 3, 2021)There’s an interesting thing happening here, it’s spicy, but cooling. Like peppermint, but the mint is not bright. Maybe like cinnamon, but not Redhots, more like cinnamon toothpaste? Though that sounds not good. This is pretty good, but cinnamon, mint, and lemon zest are more pronounced than the more common bourbon notes. -

Gran Centenario Añejo Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Jalisco, Mexico

*Neck Pour/New Bottle The smell is spearmint and maybe raspberries. Light and crisp. 17/20 First sip, peppery. Rich texture. Something like the taste of opening a pantry, herbs, spices, flour, bread. 26/30 Further tastes bring more flavors, but more of what I’ve been getting, not adding new tastes. The finish is dry, and almost like hops, I can see this opening up and being either really interesting in a good way, or in a not pleasant way, but for now I like it. 21/25 The experience is nice, packaging is classic and well done, synthetic cork is the best of both worlds in my opinion, price is fantastic. 20/20 I hold 5 points for entirely subjective assignment, I’m giving 2/5 here, for a total score of: 86/10019.95 USD per Bottle

Coopers' Craft Barrel Reserve 100 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 25, 2021 (edited July 18, 2021)Finishing off this bottle, final thoughts. There’s some good notes, it is rich, and has quite a bit going on, but is a bit rough, somewhat disjointed. I enjoyed it, and appreciate what it is, and for under $30, I recommend it as something to experience.29.95 USD per Bottle
